Default Can't 'click' on anything...please help!

Hey there everyone!

I searched through a few pages of threads, but didn't find anything related to this particular problem. A while back we had a problem that when Limewire loaded, it would ask if we wanted to upgrade...when we clicked on either option, 'upgrade now' or 'upgrade later'. nothing would happen. The buttons became highlighted when we hovered the cursor over them, but it's as if they were dead links. We couldn't get the window to close, nor could we click on anything else, so we would have to close Limwire through the task manager. After about a month or so, Limewire decided to start working again...although we had made no apparent changes.

Anyway, three days ago, it started doing it again. It gave us the upgrade window again, at which point we weren't able to choose either option. It's as if it were frozen, although the links still appeared active as they would light up when hovered over, as before. My mom decided to upgrade to LimewirePRO through the website. We did so...but are still having the same problem. This time, it was giving us a "Tip of the Day" window, which we weren't able to close at first. Then, I opened up task manager, x'ed it back out (the TM window), and was able to close the tip of the day, and to search for a song. However, when the list of downloads came up, I was not able to click on any of the songs...nor any otehr button or link within Limewire. So I shut it down through task manager.

I saw a thread that suggested deleting the LW preference folder for other issues, so I tried that. Now when I open Limewire, it asks for a language preference, but again, I am not able to click on anything, and have to shut the window out through task manager.

Can anyone help please? We've tried emailing Limewire support twice, but so far they haven't been of much assistance. :-\

Make sure you have at least Java 1.5, in fact it might even be a good idea to get the Java 1.6 beta found here but choose the JRE "Offline" version which is a 15.72 MB downld. Direct download link is here.
Before you install it, open your Add/Remove Prorams Control panel & remove all versions of Java listed. Then install the Java 1.6 JRE.

I hope you have plenty of ram!

Hey LOTR...

I already had Java 1.5 on my machine, but I uninstalled it anyway, and installed the JRE 1.6 Offline version as you said. I restarted the computer, although I wasn't prompted to do so, and then tried opening limewire. It brought up the language preference box, and when I tried clicking 'next', nothing happened, as before.

I'm not sure then. I wonder if there's a software clash somewhere. I'll ask around to see if there's other opinions.
Have you tried reinstalling LW using the "Offline" installer? How long has this problem been happening & when did it start? Was there a possibility of software updates or system updates that affected it? Perhaps a software clash? A new softw or driver you installed?

Sorry late edit in my previous post, not sure if you saw my later questions above? Looking for a bit of history to your problem & when it started. And possible causes.

What brand & model of graphic card to you run?

This might seem like the strangest of suggestions, but I just saw this post http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=54502 & the option of changing compatibility mode to NT worked for them. I'm curious whether this has any effect for you.

I had that box unchecked, but I checked it and tried Windows NT compatability, and it didn't work. I was excited, because it sounded crazy enough to work. lol. Anyway, I tried Windows 2000 as well, and that didn't work. Limewire wouldn't even open when I changed the compatibility to Windows ME and Windows 95.
