Cool How to play HDTV - high definition TV.

Got last two episodes of ***, only comes in HDTV xvid avi. I'm Windows 2000. Sound and video out of synch - picture goes faster. Only if using Preview function of Limewire is it in synch, but that is partial file, and must pause download before end to do it.
Say if you KNOW or are taking a stab.

What player are you using? See if this player plays it ok: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site)

BTW please don't mention titles of files if they are copyright. Forum rules.

Default which player

VLC was no improvement. Outside of preview mode, Real, WMP all are out of synch. Quicktime shows no pic only sound. Quicktime says I need other software but going to their site doesn't say which software - tried ON2 and zygo, no help. Realplayer is the one that plays preview.

How large is the file? HD video is very large & if the person who converted it had problems with their computer reading it or poor conversion tools might have resulted in the out of synch.

I downlded part of one last year & didn't have problems playing it. But that was on a mac.
Alternatives? MPlayer perhaps ... MPlayer is similar to VLC with in-built codecs but ... you can still add more to it such as Real file abilities but need to obtain such plug-ins separately afaik - reallib codecs (presumably for legal/copyright reasons.) http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html. You could also check http://forms.helixcommunity.org/helix/builds/

Each episode is 350 MB. My preview doesn't get larger than ~200, if I'm lucky. Don't know MPlayer, another hassle to look into when I have a chance. Are the last 2 episodes of *** in nonHDTV? I have modem so need constant online. There were usually 10-20 sources at a time for HDTV so can't be one person's fault.

Well I guess the question is finding a player that can play those files. MPlayer is a possibility but no guarantee. So is DivX player. Did you do a bitzi lookup to see if there'd been any complaints about that particular file? How to use Bitzi Web Lookup

Thanks Lordo. The site I paid at doesn't seem to offer a divx player any more or I don't know enough. Is divx same as xvid or what? I think that was in VLC wasn't it? By the way what does lol mean, if you have any more to say.

I use nero to play what is defined in filename as HDTV.xvid. This usually only means that the source that it was converted to xvid from was HDTV. You should try checking the file. I use afreeCodecVT http://afreecodec.com/
but there are many others out there

I use mPlayer for files I can't play with any other apps or where the sounds out of sync
you can put movie in sync with it

Oops I thought your file was divx. XviD is another variation on the mpeg 4 standard. XviD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xvid & DivX: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divx

Yes both VLC & MPlayer have the divx & Xvid codecs built in as well as others. There's a couple of things one player can do the other can't. I think Sleepless's advice sounds good!

Thanks Sleepless, tried free trial of Nero 7, didn't help. Now Realplayer can't play those. Exactly the file designation is hdtv xvid bia.avi. BUT reinstalled my VLC and AMAZING to see them play properly this time. Will look into MPlayer later.
So those HDTV files do work.
But VLC as default player does not launch video from Limewire panel. Must use Real for that to work. (ie change default in control panel).
PS. Maybe VLC works now because I selected full installation this time instead of default normal, if I recall.
