i have a problem viewing AVI downloads, i download the file and when viewing it i get an error message Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.. i have already downloaded VLC media player and XP codex pack 1.3.4( dont know much about it but i highlights sony DV software codec in the left window). how do i fix the problems.

Go here ad download the K-Lite Codecs pack (I'd choose the full version). Install it as instructed and then try to play your file with the Media Player Classic included in the pack. If you still can't play the file, use G-Spot (also included in the package) to get some information about the codecs needed to play the file, then google the codec name for free download...:
