Everythings gone I come to my limewire one day and all of my songs and movies are gone.. Can someone help me?! |
Within LW's library click on Saved Files, now click Explore. This will open your saved folder... are they there? Use the computer's search to look for one of the file names. If you've deleted them by mistake (it happens), you'll need a file recovery utility to try & retrieve them. There are some links here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=49851 |
Same disappearing problem I encountered the same problem with Limewire last week. I went to search for a song and not only had my entire library disappeared - so had my searches/current downloads. Also, Limewire had reverted back to its original form before applied skin etc. As if I had only just installed it - I have been using it for a couple of years. Seem to have more problems since the latest update. Any suggestions? Thanx ! |
Try deleting your preferences folder, instructions here Fixes for LimeWire Within LW's library, click on Saved files & click Explore... are your songs in your saved folder? Use the computer's search to look for one of the file names, unless you've deleted things by mistake, they should be around somewhere! |
Everything's gone Thanx Birdy for your reply. :) Luckily - my downloads go into a separate folder, so they were all in there. I had to go back in and reset the folder to download into, back to the same one - then all my old downloads showed up again in the library. However it seems my old searches are gone forever! And now I open up Limewire and it says it cannot load the searches I've done since the LAST problem !!! Is there a problem with the preferences folder in particular? If I delete it will it affect performance in any way? |
Your preferences folder contains all your settings from tools > options. If there are settings you're not sure of, note them down before you delete the folder...you'll have to go & set things up again afterwards. Deleting the folder won't hurt anything & it may also help with your other (internal error) problem. LW must be completely closed (check in task manager) before you delete the prefs! Your incomplete files will refuse to reload if your computer's crashed or if you've shut down before LW is properly closed. You can go into your LW library & click on Incomplete Files, highlight a file & click Resume but the bad news is that the file will begin downloading from 0%. If you copy the downloads .dat & .bak files to a safe location before you shut down your comp, you can then copy them back into your incomplete folder & the download will resume from where it stopped previously. I'd try to sort out whatever's going on with your LW before downloading if I were you though;) |
Everything's gone There is no "limewire" file in my Application Data folder - there is a .limewire file in the same folder as the Application Data folder. :o Sorry - I can be a bit dumb when it comes to these things - what exactly do I delete and what do I do afterwards? Thanx again! :p |
Your prefs will either be in C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\LimeWire (this is a hidden folder, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders to see it! or (if you've been using an older version) it could be in C:\Documents and Settings\your name\.limewire Go through tools > options in LW & make sure that you know what all your settings are. Close LW & make sure it's really closed. Delete the folder. Now open LW again & go back through tools > options, reset your options the way you like them. Give LW a while to settle down (say 1/2 hour) & see if it behaves itself :) |
Everything's gone Sorry - In Docs & Settings/User/ there is an "Application Data" folder and there is a ".limewire" folder. There is no "preferences" file within .limewire. Do I delete the entire .limewire folder ? If not - what exactly do I delete? Thank you - sorry for being a pain. For some reason this is just not clear to me ! :p |
Yes, delete the .limewire folder:) |
