Too many threads opened. (bug?)

Hello
I observed that limewire has large number of open threads (sometimes more than 1500)
is this a bug?
does limewire properly close any unwanted threads created by it self?
this feels pretty unusuasual to me.

Also limewire is gradually increasing its memory usage with time.

That is too many. It's more of a Java bug!!! However, LW's 4.12 has reduced the no. of threads it uses. So if you don't already have it, I'd recommend updating to the latest version, http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml
Too many threads will increase the amount of memory & cpu it uses. AFAIK The bug refers to Java threads closing off & releasing their memory they've used up.

It will also be related to how many files you're sharing & how many incompletes you have. Have you ever considered this Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! which are instructions for OSX but the same principle applies to any other platform. ;) And yes, I've tested it using different accounts with different (varied at various times) amounts of shares & incompletes ... it does reduce the no. of threads. Closing off old search tabs can also help. I'm surprised it is happening on windows though I must say! Also, using the resume/find sources function can push up the no. of threads LW uses. I found after about the 3rd of fourth resume the threads seem to increase dramatically. But that was with earlier LW's ... I haven't fully tested it with LW 4.12.x (other than noticing an improvement.)

You didn't say which OS you're using. If you're using Windows, then perhaps even the Java beta might be helpful (it's had very good reports so far). But LW won't use it if there's any other Java versions on your computer. So you'd need to remove them if you are seriously considering using it. http://java.sun.com/javase/6/download.jsp JRE "Offline" version which is a 15.72 MB download. ie: 2nd on download list: "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Beta 2 The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications." And only download the "Offline" version if you do try it. ;) :)

I'm using windows XP with java Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_08-b03)
(my system is 512MB RAM PIV 3.0G HT 1M cache 256MB Gforce6500 VGA) :)

I have uninstalled all java versions and then re installed java 1.6 beta 2
but still i'm having large number of threads
I observed 2500 threads! and 115MB memory used by LW
