Default Program spontaneously changed from English to Portuguese

Hi all, hope someone can help.

Today during a download, using version 4.11.0, everything turned from English into Portuguese, a bit at a time until the entire application displayed nothing but Portuguese. First it was in the download window, then spread to the library window and then onto the options menus.

This is what I did with no results, in this order:
closed and restarted limewire.
closed and restarted windows xp and restarted limewire.
shut down limewire and updated to latest version using web install.
shut down limewire, uninstalled it, downloaded and reinstalled it.
tried to uninstall java but got errors and manually deleted all but one dll (ssv.dll) which I can not get rid of.

Ran virus scanner, did not find anything.

Any help?

Thanks,
Banshee Sailor

I've no idea why it would suddenly change. Easy solution for LW anyway. Just go to the View menu & change language. If it happens again you might want to delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

I made sure that I deleted the prefs folder. Here is the main problem - while I speak English and Spanish and French I am not proficient in Portuguese, although I could recognize it when confronted with it! I don't know where in the menu the view and language are! I am reinstalling it and I deleted everything limewire and java so it should work - will post back once I try.

View menu should be 2nd from left. This link gives some examples: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...329#post164329

I am back already....I cannot install java from the downloaded version. The installer says it is already installed, which since I deleted it, it is not. Now what?

Keep your question topics separate. I replied to the other thread.

and I replied to your reply! Just so that this is cohesive, the problem with java has been cured. I have a clean install of Limewire 4.12.6, having deleted the preferences folder as suggested, uninstalling the older version, installing the new version and the first launch is not English!!!! However, by clicking on Ver (view) and then Mudar Idioma (change language) i got it to work. Thanks for the "map" to the menu items. I think I could have got that since it was close enough to Spanish but it is beyond me why it changed intially and then even stayed in a foreign language after all that deleting and installing and changing versions.

I think we can call this a closed problem. Interesting one, albeit. I never ever changed it myself.

Thanks LOTR for first of all your patience and your help.
