Problems adding a new shared folder... My Limewire shared folder (by default) is on my C drive where I have very little free space available. I have an external Maxtor drive that I would like to use as my shared drive but everytime I try to add a shared folder, Limewire locks up my entire computer and the only way to regain control of it is to turn the computer off and then back on. Has anyone else ever had this problem trying to add a shared folder? |
The only reference I can think of right now is this one. It still isn't solved but you could try some of the fixes suggested. Read the whole thread and decide for yourself. His problems are far worse than yours though http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...hlight=default |
I had already read that thread. No help there. But thanks anyhow. |
Limewire on an external drive. MrPeanut58 I have my LW shared folder on an external drive, my N:\ drive, without any problem as such. This is how I do it: 1) Create a folder/directory on your external drive (I called mine "Limewire") 2) Create two sub-folders under Limewire called "Shared" and "Incomplete". 3) Go into LW's Option > Tools and register that your shared file is now (in my case) "N:\Limewire\Shared". Limewire will then do the rest, i.e. auto find your new "Incomplete" folder, etc. If your LW continues to crash after this then you have a technical problem. UK Bob |
I too have never had a problems adding a shared folder, but have had 100% CPU issues once. At that time I downgraded but when upgradíng again my CPU problem was gone. I don't know till this day what fixed it, might have just been a bad install since I have this bad habit of ignoring the message about turning off all other programs before installing something. I always do clean installs though no matter what program it is. |
As soon as I click "Add" (to add another shared folder), my computer freezes. Should I try removing the default shared folder first? |
Roughly how many files are you sharing? There's 2 different techniques to adding shared folder. 1. Tools>Options>Sharing & 2. Library window > File menu > Add shared folder. |
I have 51 files (mp3 files) in the LimeWire Shared folder on my boot drive. There are close to 10000 files (mp3, mpg, avi divX, wmv) on the external drive that I am trying to share. This morning I looked for a LimeWire INI file that I could edit with NotePad so I could add the external drive shared folder there but couldn't fine one. I have tried both techniques to add a shared folder as you suggested with identical lock ups on both attempts. I feel badly about scraping LimeWire as I already paid for the PRO version. Thanks for your response. Mr. Peanut |
I have several external drives. One of them, the 1st one I often had problems with & LW didn't seem to work with it very well at all. Nobody seemed to upload from it & everytime I opened LW I'd need to re-add it. But that was a 'lemon' of a drive. The others are better. It would also cause some freezing for another p2p program I used. I presume your drive is USB2 or FW400/800 & nothing slower. |
I have 3 firewire external drives all at 80GB by Maxtor, one USB drive at 500 GB by LaCie and one 20 GB firewire drive by BUSLink. I wonder if my problem has something to do with JAVA as described in one of the other posts in this forum. I see a lot of JAVA JAR files in the Limewire folder. |
