Default Limewire v. 4.12.6 problems

I had the old version, 4.12.4 and everything was working great. I update to the new one, v. 4.12.6, and now I'm in a world of errors and frozen Limewire. When I load Limewire, it takes 10 seconds after the Limewire logo comes on screen before it even starts initiating. When it does load, it locks up. I try to close it, and on the times I'm successful, the little box that says ending Limewire with the line going back and forth locks up. I can close completely out of Limewire and not get that darn box off there. V. 4.12.4 worked great. What happened with 4.12.6? I can't get it to download a thing. I literally went from never having a problem to having them all the time. Also, I have the Windows version.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, that did nothing. I haven't tried that offline installer, would that make any difference?

Try uninstall your current version of Java and reinstall JRE using the offline installer
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

After that, reinstall LW using the offline installer
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

You could also try deleting the limewire pref folder. Insrtuctions here(points 2 and 3): Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should!.

thanks pac, i was in a hurry and re-installed LW offline version first before I reinstalled Java Runtime Environment. My question, I have LW working fine now. Should I go ahead and reinstall JRE also or am I good? I'm thinking I am, but you know more about it than I do.

Well, I spoke too soon. Quit working already. I'm going to follow your instructions...but i don't know too much about Java. I have JRE version 1.4.2 currently installed on my computer....and I see several versions I could install off of the Java link you gave me. How do I know which one to get? I have Win XP.

Try the latest version of JRE, but remember to use the offline installer...
