lime pro slows down pc

 SINCE I UPGRADED TO PRO VERSION 4.6.12 THE NEW ONE

ALL OTHER OPERATIONS MOVE AT SUPER SLOW SPEED. ALMOST CRASHED PC! DID A VIRAL SCAN THIS MORN AND FOUND ALL KINDS OF TROJANS AND ADWARE ON P.C. KNOOWN TO BE FROM THIS PROGRAM.

DOWNLOADS ARE NOT ANY FASTER THAN WITH THE FREE PROGRAM.

CKECKING TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THESE PROBLEMS. AND AM I CORRECT IN BELIEVING THAT BY SHARING FILES WITH STRANGERS THEY ARE NOT GOING THROUGH A SERVER TO BE CKECKED BEFORE DOWNLOAD. I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS MY FAULT FOR OPENING MEDIA DOWNLOADS WITHOUT SCANNING FIRST.

Please, do not use capitalized letters in your post.......it's like you're screaming at us!!!

As for slow problem. You'll have to thoroughly check your system for any remaining parts of viruses/trojans/etc.
To do so, you can use the following programs:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/(free)

http://www.grisoft.com(good free AVG)

http://www.ewido.com(free trial which can still be used and updated after the period has ended -the best in my opinion)

http://www.ccleaner.com/download/(free)

Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE)

If you can't get rid of it go here and get some free computer help:
http://norbiesworld.co.uk/computerhelp

After you're clean, uninstall LW and all Java versions on your system. Reboot and then download the JRE offline installer of the newest Java version from here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Install it and reboot again, then reinstall LW.

Sorry about the caps I didn't know everyone was so touchy.
I did clean my pc as soon as i scanned it. These trojans came in when the program was on. Even when I'm not downloading anything, and lw is on the pc runs real slow. The old lw program did not do that. They've been blocked by my antivirus.

I quess I'm saying that the pro was no different than the basic, even ran worse. Sorry I paid for it.

I saw your thread you send me on another post. already have those and use them, but rarelyneed to. In fact never had a problem until this pro upgrade.

whil in lw and downloading. can you scan downloads before sendiing to pc file? I quess that is the only answer to make sure nothing gets through. especially on an open share program like this one.

I just don't like that the top line on the pro download page says the following:

Welcome LimeWire current version: 4.12.6

Faster than Ever and No Bundled Software
No Spyware, No Adware, No Trojan Horse, Just Pure File Sharing

p.s. maybe I was not clear. The lw program is slowing down my pc. not any viruses. I just happened to find them when I checked pc after removing lw.

Wow you're not careful about what you download are you. Don't download anything under 2,000 KB (2 MB). Get used to using the junk filter & learn how it works since it's a learning filter.

Now for performance & drag... try these things

(1) Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (description for mac but is applicable for windows!) ;)

(2) Don't use the resume/find sources on all your incomplete files. Instead just apply it to 2-3 files at a time. This will make your OS, LW, & modem/router perform better rather than being inundated with a mass of requests at once.

(3) After updating to pro, it's often recommended to delete your LW prefs folder.
Delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

That's right LW has no spyware, etc. But the gnutella network does. Why? The groups who spam the network are the ones. You'll get an idea of who after looking thru these links: Recognising fake files

BTW it's internet etiquette re: caps. We learn something new everyday. Well hopefully. ;) :) :D

Thanks I quess I'll try it. By the way only one movie was downloaded. It ran at only 40 kbps when my internet runs at 108.0 mbps.
it was 800 MB disc burn -came out good.

Downloads are only as fast as the sources have available or are willing to offer. I mean, how much speed are you willing to offer for uploads? Divide that by the number of upload slots & you get the idea. Some people don't offer high speeds/bandwidth, some people offer lots of bandwidth but too many upload slots so it gets divided too many times & only slowish speeds for each upload slot. But then some people don't offer enough slots for their total capacity for uploading. Thus people get queued, etc.
