Default MS Outlook and Limewire

Ok, I have the latest version of Limewire running on Win XP Pro. and if I have Outlook and Limewire open at the same time, Outlook will not connect with my email server. If I close Limewire, my email will resume normally. What gives? Also, I only have one bar on my connection status. I cannot figure out how to get a better connection. I am positive the connection problem is not related to the email problem.

Within LW, tools > options > speed. Tick 'disable ultrapeer capabilities' & apply. Also disable any iTunes sharing options. Try reducing your upload & download bandwidth a bit, see if that helps.
Do you have a lot of simultaneous downloads? Try just downloading a couple of files at once & see if purging the downloads queue helps
Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

birdy is most likely on mark here...if LW is totally sucking up all of your bandwidth resources, especially upstream, then it is quite possible that outlook is unable to proberly connect to your mail server...

Well, I did what you said and there is no change. I still get an error when I try to receive mail when limewire is running. Also, my connection speed is only one bar. I am running Norton but I have never had a problem with the firewall until just recently when I reinstalled limewire. The email problem was never an issue either. Do you think it would be worth erasing all instances of limewire and trying to reinstall?

Sorry, I meant to edit my post with info for your connection problem but I got sidetracked.

Check the sticky below for advice about connection problems. Start off by making sure that you're only using 1 software firewall & that it's configured properly. If you're connecting via a modem/router, it probably has it's own internal firewall...the sections about enabling UPnP & port forwarding can probably help with that.
Connection problems? Check here first!

If you're still stuck, post back with your details as shown in post #2 of that sticky:wink:

I don't have any more ideas about your Outlook problem but maybe someone else here will be able to help you with that.
*What version of Java are you using?
