Question concerning Search Results (?)

Hi there,

My question really concerns the number of search result hits, as opposed to those that actually show/appear for download. It's getting a tad annoying, given the level junk that also arrives

For example, as I am writing this, I have had my basic 4.12.9 version search a subject and the 'hits' back on the results tab show 1239 results on that subject. Yet, I can only see and scroll down 17 of those. None of the others appear. Why is this?.....Why can I not access all the results achieved by the search??

....Also, this can vary. Sometimes I search and there are just a few hundred hits, but I can only see maybe three of those. Can someone please explain what is going on, and how I can at least get to see/access all my hits/results of a given search when they are found?
