Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Default drag and drop to itunes effects limewire?

i have done a search here and read up on the different ways one can move songs from limewire to itunes but found nothing that answers the following:

once i d/l songs to limewire and drag and drop from limewire library to itunes library to put on ipod and also to keep in itunes library can they then be deleted from l/w library (share) folder without it effecting anything in itunes?

i realize it won't be in l/w anymore but i would prefer not to leave all songs in l/w for more than like 10 days or so. some of course i will leave in l/w.

but i see my daughters laptop has songs in both l/w library and itunes library creating over 10 gbs of duplicate music.

does the deletion of them in l/w effect anything other then them not being in l/w anymore? she has told me once she deletes them from limewire they stop playing in itunes so she keeps the duplication growing.
i checked her setup and she has itunes intergration checked and she is definetly moving the songs not playlists.

thanx for your help

Songs are not actually stored in the Limewire Linrary. They are stored in your download folder or save folder as it is called. By default this folder is shared, meaning that song in it will be shared and will appear in the LW library in Black. If they are not shared they will sometimes appear in Red.

When you add a tune to the iTunes Library there is a setting in options ..in iTunes 6 it is in advanced, where you can, when adding to the iTunes librery also copy the tunes to yor iTunes folder. If use this option you will end up with 2 copies of each song.

Please ask if you need any more help
thank you... i found that setting it's on advanced>general tab and she does not have it checked (copy files to itunes).

yet her itunes library is like 7 gbs.

her limewire share folder (all files that show up in l/w library -she uses default folders limewire presents) which has all her downloaded files she hasn't deleted is 3gbs.

itunes has many duplicate files ie. all her limewire songs are in itunes and obviously 4 gbs of stuff she hads ripped etc. we do everything at 320 for her mp3's opting for quality.

one more question.

if my daughter whats to use itunes exclusively for her playing of files on computer, moving to ipod nano, etc would she also need to have that option checked "copy files to itunes"?

dragging the files from l/w to itunes library then is actually just giving itunes the path to file to play which is still in l/w and not actual file that is in itunes librbary (that can't be correct)? but when put in library and transferred to nano the actual file of course is transfered?

trying to stop the duplicate files and allow her to continue to use itunes (for playing, burning and transfering to nano).
how would you set it up? i consider myself computer literate (always used winmx but don't do much music anymore other than torrents and usually bootleg shows of bands that interest me) but my daughter is pretty basic when it comes to getting around her box... i just want to stop the duplicate files without effecting itunes.

again thanx for your help and quick response much appreciated.

Different people have iTunes set up their own way. But if you do have iTunes set to copy all added songs to its own library then you can delete the songs from the LW Downld folder after they have been added.
But don't get confused with the LW Playlist that shows in iTunes. Ignore that. Those songs are the ones in your LW download folder & can be played but not copied from that playlist.

As I said there can be problems, I gather, doing this on Windows. You can of course add the tunes from your save folder to iTunes ..and to the iTunes music folder, and then delete the corresponding files in your save folder. The files can also be left in the save folder and added to iTunes WITHOUT adding a copy to the iTunes folder. The problem doing this is that you need to do a bit more work sorting the folders, as iTunes will not do it for you. Tunes will transfer to iPod wherever they are, provided they are added to the iTunes library.

The tunes I share are shared by artist folder from my iTunes music folder. I'm delighted to hear you rip at 320bitrate. Others on the network are always asking for high quality files

I hope I have made this as clear as very cean mud. I am somewhat tired, and may well have missed a bit so if you need more just ask and I will get back to you later

thank you.

i will just have her delete duplicates from the limewire default folder (share?) that she saves them in. having her keep them at least 30 days before doing so she can share those at least 30 days. although once we get this sorted out all that would be gone are dupes.

funny though as she does not have checked "save copy in itunes" or whatever that exact wording is as the exact sizes of each library folder differ greatly. and that baffles me.... how did itunes get a copy of file if she DOES NOT have that option checked and she tellls me she never had that one checked.

we both like the way itunes sorts.... artist, album, song, etc and don't want to give that up.

i have done a lot of audio in years gone by and never ripped at anything under highest quality mp3 using latest lame codec available at time. and made sure she did the same which she does....

considering a mac workstation as i spend most of my time on my box using photoshop as i have gotten into photography and mac's excel at that but i know my way around a windows box it's hard to consider a switch... and vista looks very promising.

you have helped me greatly i will run a test over the weekend with her deleting a few songs from limewire default save folder for her as the path/name is shown under options.
then see how it effects anything she is doing in itunes because what baffles me is how the actual files end up there without that option to save a copy there....did it happen transfering to nano, playing the file with itunes player or burning a copy to disc using itunes? and believe me i have showed her nero ( and all settings to keep with regards to quality, gaps etc.) a zillion times but she finds it easier in itunes so she won't switch.

again thank you very much you have been extremely helpful.

thanx...

itunes does NOT have option checked to copy song to itunes. i had originally "assumed" it was because of the dupes but it is not. i have checked myself.

the playlist i understand and it would not be 3 plus gbs in size in the itunes folder are actual files sorted by itunes default routine which i may add is very organized . these files are duplicate files of just about half of her share/save folder (same) in limewire. as i have posted my one concern is killing the dupes without changing her itunes. i think i pretty much covered it all in posts. although sometimes my posts can be a bit long

again thanx to you for mentioning the above.

Likewise I use Roxio Toast for burning generally (unless I'm burning an mp3 dvd.)u But I believe iTunes 7 is suppose to have gapless playback ... I don't yet know whether that also applies to burning. Earlier versions of iTunes would have a default gap between tracks. I notice iTunes 7 does give the option for zero gaps.

Click on one of your files in your limewire library and hit explore....
This will take you to your shared folder outside of limewire, you can now shut limewire down if you want...
Open itunes, you will now have 2 windows open...
Create a new playlist in itunes and then drag and drop your desired songs into the list...
