Hey guys, I'm new here and am trying to fix my system.
I had to delete all limewire remnants from my registry to install a security suite for my cable internet connection. Now my disc drives will not operate.
I'm sure that I deleted something I shouldn't have and the provider will not help. They told me to contact Limewire, inwhich I have had no luck.
Needless to say, I need my disc drives and am desperate to get some support.
Any help I can get would be most appreciated,

I don't see how this relates to LimeWire in any shape or form. It sounds like you may have removed some drivers for your burner or something. Reinstall those & see how it goes.
You didn't explain "how" you removed files from the registry. So chances are you or the program you used removed some others non-applicable to LW.

The normal way to uninstall LW is thru the start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. Or go to the program folder & find the uninstaller. If you used the add/remove control panel instead then that's a no no! Despite seeing the uninstaller in the start menu every time you opened it via the start menu ... you decided not to use it?!

I searched limewire in my registry and deleted the apps.
also i used the limewire uninstall, but remnants in the registry still messed up the install of my security suite.
I tried reinstalling the disc drive drivers to no avail.

interesting....methinks you went overboard and deleted something not associated with LW...the last time I did what you did was a while back, but I really don't think the LW devs would have added in anything new that would cause what you describe...

are you using XP?..if so, then a repair install might be in order...put in the install disc, reboot the computer, then when the install process starts choose repair..

Never mess around in the registry if you do not know what you are doing. You might want to try a system restore first just choose a time before you messed around in the registry. If that doesn't work then do a system repair as Peerless suggested. That is if you are running XP

Yeah, I'm running XP, but my wife has photos that she hasn't been able to save to disc, or I would have done a complete restore. A system restore did not work, so I will try the repair as Peerless suggested.
I do know better than to mess with the resistry, but that was the only way to get my providers security suite to work. I'm highly upset with them over it, and they are the cable modem providers in my area.

Unistall it and tell them you want your money back....

Could you also post the name of the ISP here, so that other users see what not to get, if they check the web first.

It's been a long time since I did a complete restore, and my recovery disc only come in cd's, no floppy. So much for a repair.
My ISP is Charter and it's either them or a phone modem.
I'm gonna call Charter back and insist they help fix it.
We'll see how it goes.

Sorry to read that by following your ISP instructions you got screwed, the instructions you got from Grandpa and Peerless, in my opinion, are the only ways to go short or a full reformat and reinstallation of Win XP.

Just out of interest, what is the name of this "Security Package" that Charter insist that you install?

I honesty hope you get a proper solution from Charter, if not then uninstall their "so-called" Security Package.

PS. This is the very first time I have ever heard of a "Security Package" that required you to uninstall LW before you it could be installed, and I run over a dozen protective apps on my PC.
