Thanks all, My ISP is Charter Communications and I installed their Security Suite. Line wire was on a list of conflicting programs they sent me when I was having trouble getting it to run. The thing is, with out use of my cd and dvd drives a full reformat is not possible. I contacted Charter again, but they were still unable to help, they suggested Geeksquad. Besides that, I'm at a total loss on what to do. |

I don't know if this will help but you could try it... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...&product=94056

Hube You will have to take your PC back to the place where you bought it so that your machine can be repaired. It looks like you are out of user options, home repairs are not practical/possible. UK Bob |

lets think about this....if your cd/dvd drive(s) don't work at boot up, then you have a completely different problem....and this problem is not in any way associated with LW or your OS... have you ever heard of the BIOS, and do you know how to get there...and of course just as important do you know your way around the BIOS?

Peerless, yes I can get into the BIOS and am familiar with getting around there. The link Wondering Why posted looks like it may have some possibilities, but I'm not running a HP or Compaq. I'm going to study it some more and I'll post the results. |

I am still confused after reading the thread again.... so let me ask directly...did you try the repair install as suggested?..again, to do this, you would insert your OS CD into the drive (I assume it still opens), then reboot the computer...assuming you have the BIOS set to boot from your drive before the HDD your machine will boot from the CD and you can choose the repair install... if this fails, and you have your machine set up correctly to boot from CD, then your drives have other issues...do you understand? on another issue...so your ISP's 'security suite' has LW as a conflict eh? sounds awful like they did that on purpose to stop filesharing....(read between the lines...they are a§§holes)...I would acquire my own security sweep and tell them what edited for inappropriate language they are...

Hey Peerless, I tried the repair install, but the sysrem is not acknowledging the cd drive. When I go to properties for both cd and dvd drives it tells me this: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) I tried some of the suggestions in the link Wondering Why posted, but nothing has fixed the problem. And yes I have had "words" with my provider. They have been useless except to get me into this mess. |

again....you seem to miss the point....you put the cd in the drive...then reboot...then your machine (not yur friggin OS) will boot from the cd...
