Cool Limewire keeps freezing up

I updated my Limewire because it told me I had to, and now I am having trouble starting it up. It keeps freezing up on me and I have to do CTRL ALT DEL.

I have a Dell laptop - Latitude D520

Windows XP Home Edition SP3

Intel core2 CPU
T5500 @1.66GHz
980 MHz, 1.99 GB of RAM

I have about 12 gb free on my hard drive (120 gb total).

Just updated to Limewire 5.516

DSL wireless

no firewalls running

I do have McAfee antivirus installed but the firewall is not turned on

AT&T modem/router

home network

I don't know which version of Java since I can't get Limewire to start up properly.

AT&T is my ISP

port is not blocked

only sharing dsl on home network, sometimes one other user

have used limewire for years, off and on

I don't know what this means: 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?

live in the US

nothing has changed aside from updating Limewire

Thanks,

Suzanne

A little time consuming, however hopefully worth the effort, try Reinstallation Technique. Make sure you delete the older LW preferences folder also, but, ensure you backup the Downloads.dat file first, this is very important to retain a history of your previous download history.
I believe a new version of Java was released recently.
