Default LimeWire and sun java that comes with it?

hi all,

windows xpsp2 home with 1 amin and 3 users.

ie7 as browser and yep i still use MS virtual machine instead of the sun java...

installed limewire so kids can use with their ipod nano's.

understand limewire istalled the sun java applet i believe platform 1.42.

i upgraded it (sun java) to the latest 1.50 which had update "8" listed in add/remove programs and then again to update "10". both are large at over 100mbs in size based on what it says in add/remove programs.

my question is this can i remove update "8" and leave latest?

i googled this but could not get an answer... and also searceh the sun site with no answer.

did i even need to install sun java as stand alone app (i don't have it associated with my browser ie7-nor did i check add/remove programs to see if the coffee cup icon was there after limewire installation as i assumed correctly or not that if limewire installs sun java as part of its program that the icon would be there.

i also see 3 parts of it installed in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files) which i believe are nothing but browser plugins anyway?

or was what was installed with limewire good enough?

i like to keep a clean mean fighting machine so this is why i ask i remove all apps and stuff i don't use and manually and safely clean the registry of them when done.

should i delete what is in downloaded programs folder as it can be updated, removed or checked out by rite clicking each item listed.

thanx in advance

I can only answer one of your questions, remove all but the latest version of Java. And yes, you're better using the "Offline" installer for java (or LW also.)

thank you.

uninstalled and saved the space place under help>about/ limewire does show latest version of sun java and update 10 so all is good.

wonder why the heck one update won't remove the older one on installation... years back that was the caes but now even the sammllest of apps will overwrite and delete older version... not sun java.

i still use ms virtual machine for browsing (ie7) it's so much faster then sun java even though it's old.

thanx again
