Limewire disappears after displaying splash screen This problem seems to have started when we installed Microsoft Visual Studio NET 2003 but I can't be certain as I had not used Limewire for a few months. What happens is when I try to open Limewire it displays the splash screen and then disappears completely. I have tried doing this with Windows Task Manager open, and it disappears from the Processes list as well. I am running Windows XP Pro. I have tried this with Norton both on and off and it always does the same thing. I uninstalled it, then installed LimeWire 4.12.6 (we had 4.something before, forgot to check) with Norton disabled and the problem remains. Any help you can give is appreciated. |
Try steps 1, 3 & 5 in the thread below. Use the JRE offline installer for Java & remove your current Java version before installing the new one. Fixes for LimeWire Also make sure that you're not using any antispyware/security that might be preventing LW from opening. Make sure that LW's on any list of exceptons/allowed apps;) |
I'm only running Norton, which had LW on its exceptions list and is disabled for now anyway. I tried ALL the fixes: I uninstalled my Java, and re-installed JDK 1.6.0 (which includes JRE) Uninstalled/Re-installed LW again deleted the .limewire preferences folder Tried all the compatibility settings (95, 98/ME, NT 4.0 SP5, 2000) And attempted to run it under Administrator The only noticeable difference was that some of the compatibility settings didn't show the splash screen. :S I DID happen to notice that each time LW failed to open, an error log was created in its installation folder as follows: # # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW (0xc00000fd) at pc=0x0353a497, pid=3764, tid=2128 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0-b105 mixed mode, sharing) # Problematic frame: # C [nvappfilter.dll+0xa497] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp # --------------- T H R E A D --------------- bla-bla-bla-bla lots of meaningless numbers that I doubt you want me to post. Does that get us anywhere? |
If you're unning Java 1.6, you may have to delete all other Java versions from your computer for it to work properly. Have you tried JRE 1.5 update 10? You could give that a shot & see if things are any different. http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp I'm not a Norton user, but you could also try reconfiguring Norton... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...10&postcount=6 |
I did uninstall all the old versions of java before I reinstalled 1.6 My father uses java programing and and has been making use of 1.6 for some of his work I believe, so I don't want to uninstall it permanently. It wouldn't be a Norton problem, because I turned it off to test LW. |
I checked with my father, and he does need 1.6 to stay on the computer. Is there anything else I can do? |
I would really appreciate any help people can give me here. I can't change the Java to an older version because my father uses the newer features, but I'm willing to try anything else. |
You could try using the 4.13.0 beta...see if that's any different. You can get it from the normal download page or if you're using Pro, from your personal download page. Or...try using the 'other' installer Installing using the 'other' installer |
I know it's not a problem with the installer, because Limewire WAS working and then stopped. I justr tried installing Beta. Same problem. I'm not getting an error - but it does create the error log each time. Is there anything else I can try? # # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW (0xc00000fd) at pc=0x033ca497, pid=5412, tid=5504 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0-b105 mixed mode, sharing) # Problematic frame: # C [nvappfilter.dll+0xa497] |
Microsoft is known to be messing around with other companies soft... I know it form x-perience, i installed Windows Live OneCare, thinking it was going to be the total revolution for my pc's sec., and guess what, it didn't let Lw run, it was blocking all of it's petitions, uninstalled it and rolled-back to my old protection methods, and everything went well again, try uninstalling visual Studio for a while, and see what you got... |
