Default Problem with Library

When I opened LimeWire today, there was a tip about the library. I had never clicked on the library tab. I went into the library and saw a list of songs that I had downloaded that I thought were on your server and not on my hard drive. I deleted them at 11am EST. When I saw that they were the songs from my hard drive, I checked my recycle bin, but they did not go there. Is there anyway that I can recover them?

Thanks,
Mary Ellen

The beta will send them to the trash ... & I have to admit I haven't tried out the new release LW 4.12.10 but it may also have that ability.

In your case though, you'll need a file recovery program. Unless you have something like Norton utilities, you can try some free ones. This one Restoration (click on link) seems to get good reviews from users. Another is PC Inspector File Recovery (click on link). But whatever you do, don't resave them onto the same partition. In fact, stop saving any files onto that partition until you have completed the recovery process. Otherwise you will greatly reduce your chances of file recovery.

And when I use the recovery software, where do I look to find my deleted files?

Thanks!

Normally you will have more than one partition. I was suspect you do, if not then save both the program & recovered files onto an external drive or disk be it floppy or zip or whatever type of disk. If no alternative then choose C drive. By default, your LW downld files are saved here C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared so you should look for deleted files on the C drive.

Just a quick note, LW does not have any servers, when you download you are actually downloading from other LW users like yourself.

Thanks for all of your help. I was unable to recover anything. Not quite sure why as the most that I did on my PC after the deletion was download the recovery software and the software application is equal in size to about 8 of my files. I wouldn't think that it would overwrite all of them. I did find MP3s in the recovery program as cluster000.mp3, but they did not work. And at the very least I wanted the names.

However, I always listen to songs when I download them and so I checked my MusicMatch Jukebox and fortunately I found the names of most of the deleted songs so I can download them again. A little time consuming, but recoverable in a way!

And actually I did know that there were no servers, but at the moment that I saw the library files and when I ran to the message board, I had a brain lapse.

Thanks,
M.E.
