1608 : unable to create install instance I'm running win 2k and I want to keep using lime wire . What can I do to resolve thabove error..thanks |
1608 Install Error Evidently there are others with same problem. Is this 1608 error a bug for Win 2000 users? Lime 1.6 installs fine on my system. What is different about install process on Version 2? edthetermite P.S. I did read Troubleshooting FAQ but saw nothing relevant... |
I'm having the same problem. until it gets fixed you can go get an older version at http://limewire.gnutelliums.com/x.x/ where x.x is the version you want. I was running 1.7 before I "upgraded" |
popular problem it seems many many users are having this problem with installation. i read that wimMe users are having the same problem, so its not just win2k.:( i am running an older version of limewire just because of all the problems that the last version had. i was lucky enough to read some posts in this forum before i installed a later version. good luck...i hope someone is on this problem!! |
Also, you can try out Clean LimeWire. The site is often overloaded though, so if you can't download or load the site, try again later. :-) |
1608: Falling on Deaf Ears I get the impression LimeWire doesn't seem interested in responding to SERIOUS user questions. I am surprised that a company that receives notice from MANY users of a specific problem would not at the very least acknowledge the problem. Is there any type of proactive involvement by LimeWire reps and this forum? Is this product so fraught with bugs that they are overwhelmed? Something so simple as an "information board" would serve to keep people up to date. Simply have a listing of "recognized" problems and the current status/resolution. This would be handled by LimeWire reps staying in direct communications with the software developers. Resolution of code problems is beyond the scope of this forum. Individuals making suggestions, trying to be helpful, is really just an effort in futility. |
The LimeWire team does its best to answer questions on this forum and develop LimeWire at the same time. The "LimeWire reps" are the "software developers." Each one is a full time job, so until you invest a couple million dollars in the company so that we can hire more people, don't complain. It just gets old when we're all working very hard over here to meet users' needs and create as strong a product as we can. The FAQ at: http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/faqs addresses this question in detail. I also recommend uninstalling all previous LimeWire versions and restarting your computer before running the installer. The difference between 1.6 and 1.8+ installers is that the newer installer use InstallShield Developer 7, wherease the earlier installers used InstallShield Professional 6.3. |
