find files on local network Is there a way to find files exclusively on my local network? My local network consists only of my computer and my mom's computer.. wireless router from hers to mine. When I search for files (that are in her shared folder) using specific parameters such as title, artist, etc. it does not find these files on the local network, but finds them outside instead. The only way I can seem to get many (blue star) results is by searching for "T3 or higher" and doing a genre search leaving the other fields blank. I can find several of her files this way but not all of them. I tried using direct connect using both my WAN IP and Local IP but I get an error message both ways saying "Could not browse host ***.***.*.**:6346" Are there some sort of router settings I could change? Or perhaps use a proxy server? I would probably have to do some homework on these.. as of yet I am not aware how they work. Thanks for any help in advance! |
It's been a while since I messed with LAN connections, but sounds like you've found many of the tricks. The Direct Connect was pretty unpredicable, but it helps if both machines have a different static IP and port. This also helps the router direct LW traffic to the right machine and makes other transfers a bit easier too. |
