Hi Julio.
Once you have loaded most up to date version, It wont load an older version
so do this & you should be able to install older version.

Follow thease instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recormended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
http://www.limewire.com/
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
Peace

I have this problem as well. Unfortunately, I already deleted it from Change/Remove Programs. Now, I don't have the LimeWire folder in my All Programs. So, I can't uninstall it. What do I do?

mickjapa108 April 6th, 2007 09:04 AM

brianxcore Hi.
L/W Prefs folder prob
First! close L/W completely, then Go,
START/My Computer/local disc C:/ Documents & settings/Your User Name/Application Data
Now Delete the LimeWire Folder.
If you cant find Application Data Folder,GO to Tools/folder Options,& tick, show hidden folders,
You can put the setting back afterwards to protect your computer.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)

mickjapa108 April 7th, 2007 04:09 AM

Thats two of us happy
Peace.

Alexy April 7th, 2007 04:38 PM

Ok, I tried doing that, but when I went to search, and found all the limewire related files, I tried to delete them, but it isn't letting me delete some of them.

mickjapa108 April 8th, 2007 01:16 AM

Alexy Hi.
Can you tell us what it was that first went wrong, & made you want to delete L/W ?
Is your computer account Administrator ? you may not have permissions.
If you have permissions, & you know how!!, Reboot in safe mode ,then try to
Delete.
If that don't work Get back to us.
The more info you give, the faster your problem will be fixed :Smilywais:
Peace.

Alexy April 8th, 2007 05:25 PM

Okay, I got it now. Sorry for the trouble. All I had to do is empty out my recycle bin. I just forgot to do that. I went to search, and tried to delete it from there, but I didn't realize that it was already in the recycle bin. And no, I'm not the administrator.

Alexy April 11th, 2007 04:34 PM

Help again

I need more help. Everytime I download limewire, it will work for the first time I open with, but then it just won't open. I don't know why!

Alexy April 11th, 2007 05:03 PM

I'm lost.

Okay, I still have a problem.

The first time I was trying to uninstall LimeWire, was because it would never open. I'd double-click it, and nothing would pop up.
I went to search, like you told me to,because it wouldn't let me uninstall LW, and there are a couple of files That I'm not able to delete. A window just pops up, saying that the program is being used by some other person or program.
When I thought I got rid of everything, I went to download limewire, but a couple days later, same problem appears. It doesn't open. This time I was able to uninstall it. But when I went to search, it still finds results when I type in LimeWire. And the same files can't be deleted, and a window pops up, saying that's it's being used by another person or program. I'm lost.
I just want to get rid of LimeWire and not downloaded again. I'm quite tired of having problems with it.

mickjapa108 April 11th, 2007 10:22 PM

Alexy Hi.
It sounds like you still have L/W running in tray, when you try to uninstall.
Check task manager to see if its running, if so, end L/W process then try.
You have not said, Have you tried Reboot in safe mode to Delete ?

Where did you uninstall L/W from. ?
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.

What are the names of the files you cannot delete ?

Are there other accounts on your computer using L/W ?

Who is your ISP ?

Do you have L/W set to run when windows starts ?

Peace.

Alexy April 12th, 2007 05:03 PM

I checked on Task Manager, but I didn't find anything.
So, I went to My Computer, Program Files. I tried deleting the LW folder, but it didn't let me. I tried a different way. I opened the LW folder, and one,by one, I deleted all of it's content. I was able to delete everything, and then I just deleted the empty LW Folder. I went to My Recycle bin, and emptied it out.
Just to make sure, I went to Search, and typed in limewire. It didn't find anything. I restarted my computer, and searched again, and still, it finds nothing.
Does that mean I got rid of it?

mickjapa108 April 13th, 2007 12:22 AM

You Say!!
"Just to make sure, I went to Search, and typed in limewire. It didn't find anything. I restarted my computer, and searched again, and still, it finds nothing.
Does that mean I got rid of it ?"

There will still be BITS left if you haven't uninstalled correctly.

That should clear it.
Peace.

Alexy April 13th, 2007 11:13 AM

Alexy Hi

"Sorry, this might sound really stupid, but how do you re-boot?"
No Alexy It just means your very new to this computer stuff.

To Re Boot in Safe Mode.

Right click on task bar, choose Task Manager,Shut down/Restart
If Task Manager does not start up, Hold down Alt & Ctrl & press Delete on your Keyboard.
Your computer will now Reboot!! AS it starts to fire up again,Hold down F8,on your Keyboard.
You should hear some little clicking, then the screen should go black with white lettering.
Use the Arrow keys, (Up) to highlight "Safe Mode"(mouse will not work).
Press Enter then Enter,Windows Login screen should come up, Click on your user name.
A warning box comes up, You are entering safe mode, Click YES.
You are now in safe mode.

Windows Media MCE will not allow .limewire to be created

I've been struggling with this same type of problem. I have carefully followed all the advice here and still can only get the Limewire flash screen.

I have gone to C:/Documents and Settings/my name/ and tried to create a new folder named .limewire it will not let me. It says "you must type a file name." It will not allow a folder name to begin with a period. Limewire cannot create the folder either.

I have Limewire PRO installed on two other computers on this same network. They work perfectly. Is this a problem with XP Media Center Edition?

birdy May 23rd, 2007 08:24 PM

You don't need to create the preferences folder, that happens automatically. If you're using LW 4.9.34 or later, the default location for the preferences folder is C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\LimeWire (this folder's hidden by default).

C:\Documents and Settings\your name\.limewire was the location of the preferences folder for LW versions 4.9.33 & older;)

Try deleting your preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 below & also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past.
Fixes for LimeWire

If that doesn't help, reinstall Java & use the JRE offlilne installer for this version. Remove your current Java version before you install this other one!
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

If you're still stuck then change compatibility (point 5 in the 'fixes' thread).

thecguy May 25th, 2007 07:55 AM

It's working now.

Thanks,

I went back through all the steps and reinstallation for the third time and it's working now. I must have missed something before because I was getting an error that said that .limewire couldn't be created.

Thanks for the help:idea:.
