Red face Media Player doesn't work, etc.

Need five answers--and note my name, please!

1.) When I put a playlist in the bottom box of the library, then click "play" on the bottom right, nothing happens. It worked the first time. However,
not now.

When I click "continuous" above it, the song files in the box are highlighted continuously, on right after another.

2.) Is it OK to use LimeWire with Spybot?

3.) LimeWire detected a firewall. What do I need to do?

4.) I don't understand the difference, with regards to using LimeWire, the difference between "Saved Files," "Shared Files," and "Individually Shared Files." I understand the concept of sharing files automatically with other LimeWire users. But how do I use the files?

5.) Is it smart or not to--somehow--use my Windows Media player, to play what I've downloaded from LimeWire? (I've tried, but got nowhere.)

Thank you for your help.

Well first off the LW player is really no good, so by using an alternitive player is really the way to go. Here is a guide on WMP.
Windows Media Player 10 Guide: Adding Songs to Your Library and Burning CDs

See more choices on alternitive players and Codecs you may need for WMP.
CODECs list for Movies/Alternate players / Video help forums/ video-mp3 fixers

Yes it is OK and even recommended that you use Spybot S&D.

On the Firewall issue, Please provide the following details.
system details

This may also provide you with more info.
LimeWire FAQ and User Guide
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. It'll take me awhile to get this, but I'm working on it!

Hi Remoc,

I'm next door in New Mexico. Will be sweating ...

I'm a 19 year "simple Macintosh" veteran. I recently received an old IBM donated to me so that I could get on the Internet using cheap wifi (I'm on disability.) I'm new to the IBM-world way of doing things. I thought I better tell you that.

I went to your WMP guide.
I transferred the download over to WMP, however when I tried to "Play" I got a pop-up that says, "Can not play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding."

On that pop-up I clicked "Details" and a big Windows pop-up then said: There is no sound card (etc.) Error ID = 0x80-040256, Remedy ID = 0 00000000. (Please note: I get sound from the CD's I've put on WMP.)

I then clicked the "more info" and I get Windows online, "Additional information is not currently available for this error."

Firewall
On the far bottom left of Limewire a balloon says "LimeWire has detected a firewall."

Here are the questions to answer from your firewall link:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) If using Windows Vista, please tell us whether you have an Administrator user account.

* Windows XP 2001

2. What firewalls you have?

* I didn't deliberately put a firewall on my computer. Will that interfere with anything?

3. How much ram?

*Huh? A bunch. I'm sorry. I tried to find out, but my computer would not let me get that basic information. I have a big ol' IBM Net Vista.

4. Hard Disk space available?

*75% available.

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)

*Cable wifi. 6 of us share a connection. They get sound.

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?

*Huh? I use Netgear on my D-Link Wireless Connect on my computer to get wifi, along with Belkin Wireless Networking.

* I have no other equipment, but what the IBM has inside and speakers. No printer.

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?

* Apartment. 6 of us here share the same connection for wifi.

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.

* Limewire Basic. JAVA 6, I think. (The next upgrade is to: "JAVA 6 Update 5",)

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

*The cable guy set up wifi for 6 of us.

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

* I got "Your test worked."

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

* Yes, see above.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

* I'm new. I've downloaded from LimeWire just fine.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image

*Yes!

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?

* N/A

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall

* EZ Antivirus. (Not EZ firewall or anything else EZ.) Plus SpyBot.

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland).

* USA.

I think I must be a lot of work. Thank you ahead of time.

I think the issue may lie at #6, Your wireless network. Quite a few routers have Firewalls built in. I'm giving you this Link which will help you open a Port, but you will have to get more info on the router/modum. You will need Model #'s and then you can find your router to start the process.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall.
To be honest with you I'm not up on Networking and WiFi, so I hope this helps.
