Have you tried downloading Java to your computer and NOT doing the 'on-line install' ?
Do try that... Just download it and save it to a suitable folder on your machine...
Then run the Java install file you have saved.

This procedure is definitely the preferred way to install Java in any and all circumstances.

Be patient at the Sun site as it can sometimes be a bit frustrating finding the
