I just want to take the opportunity to point out that I am annoyed by the fact that Limewire during a standard uninstall attempted to install Spyware components on my system. Such program behavior is unacceptable and I cannot help but feeling that the concept of uninstalling and its intended results are not known to those responsible for that particular uninstall feature.

Had it not been for Lavasoft's Ad-watch, Limewire's good-bye gift might have successfully been planted without my knowledge. Since Limewire seems to perceive such behavior to be good computing practice, I consider Limewire a parasite that is not worth considering for a Gnutella network client solution.

I got the same thing BUT unfortunately didn't have that utility to kill the spyware until AFTER uninstalling so yeah I feel victimized too

The one I got hit with was "doubleclick" spyware - about the worst one there is.

But upon uninstalling LimeWire I also got another 'parting gift' -- "Limeshop Preferences" STUCK on my right click popup menu in IE 6 -- now I have to try to figure out how to put that beast to sleep too.

Anyone know how to kill that monster?

Yes, run regedit, search for "limewire preferences", and you will find a key within the Internet Explorer registry that sets up that menu item. Delete the key, and the menu will go away.

the "doubleclick" spyware you refer to is just a cookie file, not a program.

Ah, but cookies are one of the main spyware tools of companies like Doubleclick.

And just think of it this way, why would the uninstall program (you know... the program that's supposed to be *REMOVING* stuff from your hard drive) *ADD* any sort of cookie at all to your system if it weren't useful for some purpose? And I have a strong feeling that that cookie isn't there for YOUR benefit.

A cookie (DoubleClick) is made by Internet Explorer/Netscape and ONLY by Internet Explorer/Netscape. You cannot edit a cookie, and thus LimeWire's Uninstaller cannot either. Ad cookies are created almost every time you see an advertisement in a browser and are almost impossible to avoid. DoubleClick has an opt out cookie available on their site here

It will not stop you from seeing their ads, but will stop them from keeping track of you. I don't think Ad-aware can tell the difference from the real and the opt-out cookie, so you must disregard the cookie in ad-aware the next time you see it, or they will resume keeping track of you.

Um...exactly how am I supposed to use regedit? That stuff is completely foreign to me.

Unless you are familiar with the registry dont mess with it. you can turn you computer into a paperweight! plus you cant UNdelete things. so be carefull
