What does the '#' symbol really represent? Hi - I'm new to Limewire, so my first question is probably a bit simplistic... I wondered if someone could tell me what the '#' symbol actually represents. According to the FAQ/Help pages it is the number of identical files, which I presumed meant the number of on-line users (hosts) that had that file. But if I right click on the file name I can choose to 'browse host'. If #=25, say, how does it decide which of the 25 hosts to browse? Thanks. MLS |
Lol......I've once asked the same question. Actually no-one knows for sure. The general guess is that LW will take the very first it can browse (because not all host have chat enabled-which seems to help when trying to browse-, or are behind firewalls)....;) Almost forgot, the # symbol means indeed the amount of hosts connected to the network with an identical file (in name, size, and type) |
Thanks FooloftheHill - So, not as helpful/useful as it could be then! Even less so when it comes to blocking hosts who share fake files (eg adverts or links to porn websites). MLS |
so would it be better to have a lower number for the '#' thing? |
