Default Stupid Question!

Hi to everybody! I'm very new to Limewire. Actually I've been using the free version for about a week and only today bought the PRO version. Ok, here's the stupid question.....how do I know if the window that comes up is the new version or the old free one? It looks exactly the same!! Help!!!

Click the tab "Help" and then go to "About LimeWire"
That should tell you which version you have as well as the Java version used.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the fast answer. It says that I'm using 4.12.3 so I guess that's the pro. One more question if you don't mind. When I was downloading free music, sometimes the songs would show up in my folder with serial numbers of some sort in front of the title ans they only play for a few seconds. What did I do??? Thanks.

Well, first back to the "pro or not " issue.
In the LW window on the right top you should actually see the word PRO.
I'm curious, where did you get your pro version from? From the official LW site:
http://www.limewire.com/

To your question about the songs, from my experience I would say that some people share also their Incomplete files. When those people preview files they are downloading by themselves, LW will make a "preview file" marked with a long serial number (some start with a letter such as "T") followed by the title of the file.
And now it looks that you have downloaded exactly such a file with only a few seconds or a few minutes contents.

Always check files either with Bitzi (right click on a file in your search window, go to advanced and then chose "Look up with Bitzi"), or look also at the file size. Songs usually mp3 files should have some 2-5 MB or even more. Files with less than that aren't worth to download.

Default uh oh!

I downloaded from the official site. In my start window with the programs, it says pro, but in the right hand side window it only says limewire. I downloaded it but I'm wondering if my service pack is blocking it. Is there any way I can tell for sure.Is it possible that I downloaded it but the older version pops up instead?

I had a similar problem when I updated to the latest version of LW. It kept installing the old version. Someone said it was probably a cache issue.

What I did was run CCleaner, it's freeware and it'll clean the cache plus free up a space on your hdd.

Read more about it here: http://www.ccleaner.com/. It fixed the problem for me.

Default CCleaner

Thanks again. I tried the cleaner but it didn't work. I read about clearing the preferences but I'm not clear at all how to do that. I'm not the most literate person on the computer.

The first link will explain to you how to find the " .limewire " preference folder:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...imewire+folder

The second link tells you about how and why to delete it (Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...hreadid=36420:

But I'm not sure whether it will make a difference to your problem. Though it will be worth trying......
