Configuring proxy?

Ok, i'm not really clear on proxy servers, but my connection is provided through my university - thats a proxy right?

so how do i know what type it is and how the *!@# do i configure it? i CANNOT get limewire to connect:mad: and after trying every possible change in my firewall settings i've realised this is probably the problem so any advice would be soooo very helpful.

cheers

AFAIK most universities now shape or block p2p use. You could try setting up your own proxy; A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. Tor is supposed to be good.

 Thanks for the help, but i officially give up. Have downloaded tor and privoxy, also tried a bunch of other proxies, but the only difference is that it takes half the time to tell me i cant connect. i'm missing something here and i dont know what it is.

looks like limewire and i just weren't meant to be. Ah, and it could have been so beautiful. :(

and i spoke to soon. got connected once, downloaded one song before my dial up connection dropped out, but once i was back online LW went back to telling me i was behind a firewall....

what went wrong?

Make sure whichever port you're using is clear for LW to use. See Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link); ie: configure your firewall & make sure only one firewall is active. But if you're on dial up, you do need to use LW sparingly so to speak. ie: if you try to resume too many files or downld too many at one time, it can affect your connection or LW's connection.
