legal eagles coming

Hi.
Clipmgr here. Been with LimeWire 12-18 months or so. Just wanted to let everyone know that a few days days ago (Fri. 8/4) there was a big article in the local papers (Madison WI, Wisconsin State Journal and Capitol Times) that they arrested, indicted and plan on prosecuting 3 local people for copyright infringement, etc., etc. and whatever else they can bust them on for downloading free tunes and specifically mentioned that all 3 were using Lime Wire.

Just a heads up, word to the wise thing.

Regards,
Beth

Thanks

I don't know if you heard but LimeWire has been sued by the RIAA. This is not good users being arrested and company being sued. Not good at all.

No, I hadn't heard but it doesn't surprise me. It was just kinda scary when it happened, almost literally, in my own backyard.

And seriously? I'm not the worst "offender" by far. Then again, the people they are planning on prosecuting had only downloaded 1000, 2000 songs. Not a lot in the big picture. I could probably even do the jail time and 'extended supervision', but they're planning on asking for somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000 each in restitution! Y'know ... if I had that kind of money I would probably just buy my music legally.

Once Napster went down I knew it was only a matter of time. Just figured they'd start on the coasts and work their way in to the Midwest. Silly me.

And pardon me for asking, but: "aren't they all rich enough?"

Indeed they are! In fact did you know that most artists make 90% of their money on tours not record sales. For those who don't know most artists are screwed out of their money by the record company. The artist recieves a very small percentage of the record sales. However to make up for this they almost always go on tour where they are the only one who makes the money and then they pay for the expenses such as traveling, dining, and the crew that helps them perform their shows. But with all these expenses they still make millions of dollars more on tour then record sales. So if you want to support your favorite artist go to their concert which actually helps them instead of helping their record company which are all rich b4st4rds anyway.

Look at it this way most actors are extremely lucky if they make 20 million dollars for a movie but that's nothing when you realize that the movie can make over 100+ million dollars just in opening weekend and then another 50+ million in DVD sales.

Pirate,
You're breaking my heart.

But I agree -- all is NOT right in the world. Just wish I had been smart enough to get in on the ground floor! hahahaha

Have you heard anything more about the LW lawsuits?
