Question can't get past nonexistent firewall??

When I finished installing I clicked on the icon for the program, it tried to load for a few seconds, then it gave me a message that said:
"Limewire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking Limewire's access to the internet or loopback connections on a local machine. Please allow Limewire to access the internet and then restart Limewire."
So first I went into my firewall settings and listed Limewire as an exception to the firewall, and when that didn't work, I turned the firewall off, but it still gave me the same message. Anyone have any suggestions?

Did LW fail to open completely or did you get this message after LW opened completely??
If it is the first, make sure that you have Java (the newest version) properly installed before installing LW. The normal procedure would be to uninstall all Java and to reboot. Then after downloading the newest version of Java from here (using the JRE offline installer):
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
installing it and then rebooting. Afterwards you can install LW.

If it is the latter one:
Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Are you sure you only have one firewall... you might have one from your antivirus and Windows and you need to set an expection for both o_O

Then just re-install Java and.or LW
