Default Need help (movie download & virus advice)

Hi, im VERY new to this and i just wanted to learn more about limewire to prevent from future viruses.
What i need to know is what type of files or sizes i should prevent from downloading. For example what is the proper size for an actual movie. And can someone also tell me what mpeg, avi, mov, mpg, is or what it means?

Here's a good place to start
WARNING: Viruses on the network you should be aware of

What you should know about wma files
mov files
.wma, .wmv & .mov files are ones to be careful with, see the links above. You can add these extensions to your keyword filter (tools > options > filters) to prevent them appearing in searches.

Always check a video file with Bitzi before download. Audio files aren't rated too often. Check program files with Bitzi too
How to use Bitzi

And some info about downloading audio, much of this advice also applies to video
How to find music

Sorry for so many links, I don't mean to make your head spin!!

You'll see the file type on the search page in the 'type' column. When the file's in the download pane, if you hover your mouse over the movie title you'll see the type there as well.

ok I need an advice. I have downloaded an episode of ***** **** and my anti virus has pick up nothing harmful in the file, how ever when I tried to play the vedio clip on my windows media player it said, "The file you are attempting to play has an extension that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result an unexpected behavior." What should I do? Is it ok for me to play the vedio and wont cause any harm to my computer? Is it possible i may recieve a virus if i do play it?

If you've scanned the file with a good AV then you should be ok.

You might need codecs for your player. Click on the link below, it has more links to codecs & also the free VLC player. VLC has codecs installed & plays most file types. If you want to try it, just choose the nearest mirror for download.
Codecs & VLC

Only thing is...if you use VLC you won't be able to preview or launch a file from within LW. To launch a completed file, go to your LW library, click on Saved Files then click Explore. Your saved folder will open & you can launch from there.
For previewing, click on Incompletes then Explore & you can preview from the opened incomplete folder.
