Default Error: an older version of LW is running

OS - Microsoft Office 2003
Internet - DSL
Error - an older version of LW appears to be running. You must exit the old version to continue.

I'm not running an older system. I tried to delete LM through the control panel but it won't let me. It also says used by another user.

Please help, this is very frustrating.

Uninstalling through add/remove programs can cause problems. The correct way is via start > all progs > limewire, then use the uninstall option from there. You could try reinstalling LW (this should automatically uninstall any other version) & then uninstalling the right way. Also, check in task manager...if any LW is running, end the process

I went to start - all programs - LW didn't show up.
Then I went to task manager and it wasn't running either.

I get the error message when I'm installing LW.

Use your computer's search to look for any limewire files & folders, you might find some things lurking around.

I found 4 limewire files in program files.
If I right click on them and try to delete - i get an error - "Cannot Delete LM: Acces is Denied. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that file is not currently in use."

If I try to open LW program it says it had a corrupted installation and try to download and install again.
When I try that I get my original error.

The 4 files of LW found in the program files are: a File Folder, Application, Executable Jar File, and an Application Extension.

Which LW installer did you use? The online (recommended) one has been known to cause trouble for some people!

Try this, it's probably easier than messing around with other pgms to delete your files. At least for starters:

Download the latest Java JRE, using the offline installer here
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Go to add/remove programs & remove your old version of Java. Now reinstall the new Java. Reboot.

Download the offline installer for LW
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Now see if LW will install properly.
