Hard Disk space available? Not sure where to look for this? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Not sure where to lookk for this? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW Pro 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? AOL 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Have done this twice. Works fine 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I think I am sharing? 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Just recently. I am new. Worked great in the begining. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? No. I turned off my firewall. The LW Basic worked fine for me at first & then I got the pro. I downloaded some music I thought my parents might enjoy. My Dad listens to it fine on his computer, but my Mom, it will not play in her truck. Why? A few days ago I was downloading music for myself. It gets half way downloaded & then it says waiting for source, can't find source & then nothing happens. I tried leaving it like this for a day or so & nothing happens. |

Questions???? Hi Yvette As you are inexperienced in computer matters I will try and make my answers to your questions as simple as possible without (hopefully) coming across as being big headed or insulting. Question 1: Quote:

So, distance, upload speed from a user's PC, state of local and national networks, conjestion, etc. are all things that can affect your download speed. Hope this helps. UK Bob |

Gnutella is the network that LW & other p2p clients use... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnutella So, when you open LW & it connects...you're connected to the Gnutella network. Shut LW down & you're no longer connected to the network |

When I highlight a track to download I get a message within a box indicating that Gnutella cannot find a licence and cannot montor etc or words to that effect and asks the qusetion whether I want to download anyway and also to respect local copyright laws. Did you get anything like that when using Limewire? |

Hi again Yvette You asked about "Audio Ripper", which I must admit I have not heard of but I have found out that it can rip files from one format and convert them to another. Therefore, when ripping MP3 files remember to instruct "Audio Ripper" to convert them to WAV files before burning them to CD. Cleaning out your PC once a week is a very good idea, I clean out my PC whenever I need to perform a financial transaction (works out as 2 - 4 times a week), e.g. internet shopping, internet banking and transfering funds abroad. I use three anti-spyware apps, i.e. Ad-aware SE, Spybot and Ewido, as well as my Norton AV. UK Bob |
