Default I have some questions - any help appreciated!

Hi, I'm a newbie and I have a few questions - I did search the forums first but couldn't get the answers so I though I'd just ask you guys.

1. In the Connections folder/tab thingy there are all these ingoing/outgoing hosts - what does this mean?

2. Is it safe to download from a host who's vendor is someone other than Limewire? For example something called RAZA.

3. Why is the "browse host" buttom for some vendors unclickable?

4. Why does "error. could not browse host" come up?

5. What does this symbol ~ after the bitrate mean? eg. 160~

6. Re: my shared folder. I'm so worried that people are somehow able to see files in my hard drive that I don't want them to see. Is that possible? Or can I safely say that what I see in my sharerd folder is EXACTLY what others see - nothing more, nothing less?

7. Does multiple locations mean multiple sources? And does multiple sources mean that that's how many hosts have that particular song/clip etc?

OK, I think that's it!

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. In the Connections folder/tab thingy there are all these ingoing/outgoing hosts - what does this mean? http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...nections.shtml

2. Is it safe to download from a host who's vendor is someone other than Limewire? For example something called RAZA. Yes, but it's always wise to scan every file before you open it/play it

3. Why is the "browse host" buttom for some vendors unclickable? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...t=browse+hosts

4. Why does "error. could not browse host" come up? as above

5. What does this symbol ~ after the bitrate mean? eg. 160~ http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...hlight=bitrate

6. Re: my shared folder. I'm so worried that people are somehow able to see files in my hard drive that I don't want them to see. Is that possible? Or can I safely say that what I see in my sharerd folder is EXACTLY what others see - nothing more, nothing less? Yes

7. Does multiple locations mean multiple sources? And does multiple sources mean that that's how many hosts have that particular song/clip etc? http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...g_search.shtml

There you go all that info from using the search function...

Hi, I'm a newbie and I have a few questions - I did search the forums first but couldn't get the answers so I though I'd just ask you guys.

1. In the Connections folder/tab thingy there are all these ingoing/outgoing hosts - what does this mean? They are the UltraPeers that you connect to. Limewire Basic connects to 3, Pro connects to 5. Unless you connect as an Ultrapeer yourself, then it's up to 64 connections

2. Is it safe to download from a host who's vendor is someone other than Limewire? For example something called RAZA. Should be, but ShaRAZA is often not as reliable for speed (Slow downloads)

3. Why is the "browse host" buttom for some vendors unclickable? Because those vendors are either blocking browse host, or Limewire used another type of connection

4. Why does "error. could not browse host" come up? Same as above

5. What does this symbol ~ after the bitrate mean? eg. 160~ It means variable Bitrate. Just search the forum for bitrate

6. Re: my shared folder. I'm so worried that people are somehow able to see files in my hard drive that I don't want them to see. Is that possible? Or can I safely say that what I see in my sharerd folder is EXACTLY what others see - nothing more, nothing less? Should be safe. Limewire by itself should cause no problems in this area, but I guess that some spyware/adware either downloaded or otherwise ended up on your computer could show other files

7. Does multiple locations mean multiple sources? And does multiple sources mean that that's how many hosts have that particular song/clip etc? Yes

OK, I think that's it!

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

to both of you for all your help!!

Looks like I missed a couple of those answers in the forums! Sorry guys.

Sleepless, with the adware/spyware thing you were talking about. Do you mean that other hosts could be seeing files in MY SHARE FOLDER that I can't see, and that they could be downloaded?

One more thing, when I choose to see incoming searches in my Monitor window I get the pop up box saying:

"Your client is a leaf node shielded by an ultrapeer. Hence you will see few or no searches..."

That doesn't really make sense because I have so many searches in my window, and they speed by so fast that I can't even read what they are a lot of the time. Is this normal?

I still don't really understand the Connections thing. But anyway, my Connections window is full from top to bottom with ingoing/outgoing hosts.

You guys must think I'm pretty thick asking all these questions, huh?

Thats odd if your connections is showing that many connections then you are running as an UP,(but you state that Your client is a leaf node shielded by an ultrapeer. Hence you will see few or no searches..." ) which says you are running as a leaf. ????

Default Yeah, that's what I thought

Thanks for the reply, grandpa.

I've just hooked up for the first time today. I started off with 7 connections now there are three which is what I normally have. But yesterday the whole screen was full. I'll see if it happens again.

With the ultrapeer, leaf node etc thingy, do you choose what you are? And what does it all mean?

Thanks for those links, wondering why. The user guide is excellent. I'd never checked it out before, I'd only ever read the FAQ's.

@ roastchicken

About that ad- /spyware thing. That is not likely to happen. And if you are just a little bit careful with what you download. E.g. stay away from small programs and such, then it's even more unlikely to happen.

Also if you are not 100% sure a file is legit, then it scan it using your antivirus software Before opening it.

That UltraPeer vs. Leaf mode thing has me a bit stumped as well. Normal behavior is that only UltraPeers get full screens with connections.
