![]() OK- I am new to this. It has been less than 72 hours before I even owned an IPOD or cared about music, downloading music, or music file extensions. (I have known to watch out for those deadly .exe files for awhile though)...... Here is what I have been doing. I run a search on a favorite artist: ****, ****, ****, ****,......doesn't matter. Search takes time- expected. I EXPECT that. THEN I select ONLY the choiciest FOUR STAR audio files, hit the download button. Then I hit cancel a few thousand times- "file name already in use". OK. I understand why that would take some time. Then the race begins. I have played around with settings- but for me- my connection- downloading from 25-50 seems just right- I watch and adjust. So- time goes by- things are blipping along- but eventually it hits some slow down point. So I read the user-ware and learned some things and now I re-sort by (in my mind) "activity. Then I highlight, shift, right click and "FIND NEW SOURCES". That usually gets things jumping again. Then I wait till it starts to die down. Repeat the above steps of "re-activating" (not what it is called but I'm new. At some point- I have gotten all I will get without a brand new squeaky clean search. So. I highlight all the dead leads- go to cancel them........THEN- my ENTIRE SYSTEM LOCKS UP FOR AT LEAST TWENTY MINUTES! If I am in a battling mood- I fight it with ctrl-alt-delete - to NO avail. If I am in a passive mood I vaguely notice - yeah- it takes like twenty minutes to "reset" from the dead leads. Ok- this likely has something to do with connections being broken- so- why has nothing been done about this- I can NOT be the only one experiencing this- or am I? And if someone is uploading from me- then breaks their connection- is that affecting my bandwidth? I bet it sure is- isn't it. Welcome to the real world of data transfer, Isotope. LOL. PS- does Lime Wire REALLY run "URGENT UPDATE. Please download and run immediately". I tried my HARDEST NOT to fall for it- my insticts told me- virus. My guess is- ahh- no. I bought the pro version after I downloaded 3,000 songs and realised it had more than paid for itself-want to support the programmers. But- - hmmmm- I have a weird feeling I am dodging A LOT of downloadable bullets here. (I am supposed to be able to hold my own- numerical modeler- computers running efficiently are my rice bowl- but I primarily program in FORTRAN and VB- clueless when it comes to this stuff) ![]() Isotope (Britt) __________________________________________________ Edited to comply with the House Rules.
