just curious,,,how do you find out what speed /size your modem is

i am with NTL with a 2meg line but ime upstairs on a desktop
and my dads downstairs on a lap-top through a wireless belkin 54MBps router
[I HAVE NO CLUE TO THIS NOOBIE Qs] sorry
