Needing to understand what I can download.

Okay, I am just getting started with LW. I know the forum rules say don't ask about methods of downloading illegal stuff, etc. so I AM NOT asking that, but I do want to understand where the line is.

It is okay to rip a song to itunes from a cd I own right? Then of course, I have the song in two locations and what happens if I lend the cd to a friend and he rips a song? Is this when it becomes illegal? Is it okay as long as I lend the cd and he doesn't rip it?

Last Christmass I lent a christmans cd to my dad. I found out he ripped it and sent it to my aunt. Later I found out that my aunt ripped it and sent it to her son (my cousin). I finally got it back at a New Years family party and nobody even knew how many times it had been ripped. Did my entire family break the law?

I am very confused by this.

It depends on where you are from and the laws that are in place there...

Try googling the name of the place you come from and copyright laws, you will probably get some good info from that...:rolleyes_2:
