Just installed limewire, won't run alright so i downloaded J2SE 5.0 update 11 and i also dowloaded limewire basic but whenever i try to open the shortcut on my desktop the limewire icon pups up for a split second and then disappears and nothing happens. one of my friends already tried helping me and he couldnt figure it out any advice? - thanks |
Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Delete the Shortcut on desktop. Go to the programs folder & open LW directly. If it opens ok, then create a new shortcut & send to desktop. If that doesn't fix it, then try the other options in the link above such as changing compatibility mode. |
okay i tried that and it seems that theres no file "C:/Documents and Setting/my account name/.limewire" the java updates fine [ i used the first link ] but when i get into my documents and settings on 'My Computer' i typed in the C:/Documents and Setting.... u know the deal for my account and it said there was no such file/folder |
Same here |
The link says point 2 & 3. :cantseeyou: Did you try both? Depending on your version of LW or if you'd previously deleted your prefs folder, you will find the folder in one or the other location. It's been about 2 years since the LW prefs folder was called .limewire ... all new versions will locate it in a different location. |
well I have that same problem... I have downloaded both java and limewire multiple times now (deleting the old ones first) and I still have the same issue... I can't find a .limewire or limewire application folder anywhere... They don't exist on my computer... I have dial-up so downloading this many times is quite time consuming... Please help! |
Download the "Offline" versions so you have the entire installer on your desktop. Installing via dial up is potentially hazardous whilst the installer awaits the data to arrive. Whereas installing from your computer when all the data is within the installer is much safer. Same applies to Java. You will only have a limewire preferences folder if you have gone thru the set up stage of setting options at the end of installation. To find them, you really need to view my sample image carefully. Also, check the post before it which has a sample of finding the previous version of LW prefs. But if you are only a new user, then you will find the prefs folder in the application data folder which is HIDDEN. I'd recommend using the Add/Remove control panel to remove all previous versions of Java, then install the newer version of Java; Download Java software from Sun Microsystems So ... install Java first. ;) If still problems ... remove all versions of java & install this version. Java 1.5 (take the JRE) Also check the tips for changing LW compatibility if it doesn't run properly: Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link) BTW never use the add/remove control panel to uninstall LimeWire. It will not fully uninstal it & cause headaches. Instead, each LW installer will uninstall previous version at beginning of installation. Else, go to start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. |
well I am already dling the java offline version, and already have the LW versions on my computer for offline installation.... Which brings up another question... I have two LW versions dled.. one is LWwin, and the other is LWwin-"full"... which should I use? |
nm... it works now |
alright in ur earlier post it said if ur only a new user then the folder will be hidden and to change it so u can see ur hidden files on ur search engine. well i cant find anything to change as a matter of fact i cant find anything relating to hidden files or folders whatsoever. im using an xp home so any ideas where i could switch it to see hidden folders? |
Go to Control Panel, double click Folder Options. Now click the View tab...put a dot in the circle next to 'show hidden files & folders' > Apply > ok.:) |
omg thx so much ha i wouldve never found that. ill try it out now:super: |
okay maybe not. i figured out how to show the hidden files and i searched but there are only two "Documents and Settings" files and neither are folders one is "Limewire 4.12.15" and the other is "uninstall" the only folder out of all of these is a LimeWire folder that is labeled as Program Files not Documents and Settings, root - program files, and .NetworkShare - program files. So should i delete one of the Documents and Settings files or is this just not the way to go |
okay whoa i just found an 'error' that has been occuring every time i try to open limewire but not popping up on the screen it was actually stored inside the LimeWire folder # # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW (0xc00000fd) at pc=0x01168cc7, pid=4992, tid=1576 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_01-b06 mixed mode, sharing) # Problematic frame: # C [wins4f.dll+0x8cc7] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # HotSpot Virtual Machine Error Reporting Page # --------------- T H R E A D --------------- Current thread (0x03267400): JavaThread "NIODispatcher" [_thread_in_native, id=1576] siginfo: ExceptionCode=0xc00000fd, ExceptionInformation=0x00000000 0x03700738 Registers: EAX=0x00003014, EBX=0x0370c7b8, ECX=0x03700738, EDX=0x0000000b ESP=0x03709730, EBP=0x03709784, ESI=0x00929d98, EDI=0x0370e7c0 EIP=0x01168cc7, EFLAGS=0x00010206 Top of Stack: (sp=0x03709730) 0x03709730: 03709768 0116346a 71ab2e67 00000000 0x03709740: 0370d7bc 0370c7b8 0370e7c0 0370f7c4 0x03709750: 03709768 71ab2dc0 03267000 00000006 0x03709760: 00000540 00000001 00000000 03709754 0x03709770: 03709354 0370fb64 71ac24af 71ab2e88 0x03709780: ffffffff 0370f7d8 6d592fea 00000000 0x03709790: 0370d7bc 0370c7b8 0370e7c0 0370f7c4 0x037097a0: 03267400 26a207c0 26a207c0 00000000 Instructions: (pc=0x01168cc7) 0x01168cb7: 4c 24 08 72 14 81 e9 00 10 00 00 2d 00 10 00 00 0x01168cc7: 85 01 3d 00 10 00 00 73 ec 2b c8 8b c4 85 01 8b Stack: [0x03700000,0x03710000), sp=0x03709730, free space=37k Native frames: (J=compiled Java code, j=interpreted, Vv=VM code, C=native code) C [wins4f.dll+0x8cc7] C [nio.dll+0x2fea] j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector.poll0(J I[I[I[IJ)I+0 j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector.poll()I +43 j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector.access$ 400(Lsun/nio/ch/WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector;)I+1 j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl.doSelect(J)I+63 j sun.nio.ch.SelectorImpl.lockAndDoSelect(J)I+37 j sun.nio.ch.SelectorImpl.select(J)I+30 j com.limegroup.gnutella.io.NIODispatcher.process()V +80 j com.limegroup.gnutella.io.NIODispatcher.run()V+15 j java.lang.Thread.run()V+11 j com.limegroup.gnutella.util.ManagedThread.managedR un()V+1 j com.limegroup.gnutella.util.ManagedThread.run()V+1 v ~StubRoutines::call_stub Java frames: (J=compiled Java code, j=interpreted, Vv=VM code) j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector.poll0(J I[I[I[IJ)I+0 j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector.poll()I +43 j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector.access$ 400(Lsun/nio/ch/WindowsSelectorImpl$SubSelector;)I+1 j sun.nio.ch.WindowsSelectorImpl.doSelect(J)I+63 j sun.nio.ch.SelectorImpl.lockAndDoSelect(J)I+37 j sun.nio.ch.SelectorImpl.select(J)I+30 j com.limegroup.gnutella.io.NIODispatcher.process()V +80 j com.limegroup.gnutella.io.NIODispatcher.run()V+15 j java.lang.Thread.run()V+11 j com.limegroup.gnutella.util.ManagedThread.managedR un()V+1 j com.limegroup.gnutella.util.ManagedThread.run()V+1 v ~StubRoutines::call_stub --------------- P R O C E S S --------------- Java Threads: ( => current thread ) =>0x03267400 JavaThread "NIODispatcher" [_thread_in_native, id=1576] 0x00ceb000 JavaThread "AWT-EventQueue-0" [_thread_blocked, id=4752] 0x00cddc00 JavaThread "Image Fetcher 0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=3652] 0x00cda000 JavaThread "AWT-Windows" daemon [_thread_in_native, id=712] 0x00cd8c00 JavaThread "AWT-Shutdown" [_thread_blocked, id=3160] 0x00cd8000 JavaThread "Java2D Disposer" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=4112] 0x00c1cc00 JavaThread "Low Memory Detector" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=5856] 0x00c18000 JavaThread "CompilerThread0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=4808] 0x00c16c00 JavaThread "Attach Listener" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=5716] 0x00c16000 JavaThread "Signal Dispatcher" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=5096] 0x00c0e400 JavaThread "Finalizer" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=1420] 0x00c0d400 JavaThread "Reference Handler" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=3380] 0x00a36400 JavaThread "main" [_thread_in_vm, id=3148] Other Threads: 0x00c04000 VMThread [id=5888] 0x00c1e400 WatcherThread [id=2036] VM state:not at safepoint (normal execution) VM Mutex/Monitor currently owned by a thread: None Heap def new generation total 2304K, used 1581K [0x1e960000, 0x1ebd0000, 0x1f330000) eden space 2112K, 65% used [0x1e960000, 0x1eabb650, 0x1eb70000) from space 192K, 100% used [0x1eba0000, 0x1ebd0000, 0x1ebd0000) to space 192K, 0% used [0x1eb70000, 0x1eb70000, 0x1eba0000) tenured generation total 30272K, used 623K [0x1f330000, 0x210c0000, 0x26960000) the space 30272K, 2% used [0x1f330000, 0x1f3cbe98, 0x1f3cc000, 0x210c0000) compacting perm gen total 12288K, used 949K [0x26960000, 0x27560000, 0x2a960000) the space 12288K, 7% used [0x26960000, 0x26a4d548, 0x26a4d600, 0x27560000) ro space 8192K, 62% used [0x2a960000, 0x2ae5e4e8, 0x2ae5e600, 0x2b160000) rw space 12288K, 52% used [0x2b160000, 0x2b7a0e78, 0x2b7a1000, 0x2bd60000) Dynamic libraries: 0x00400000 - Some people have had problems with Java 1.6.0_01. Try this version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version (via Add/Remove Programs) before you install this one. Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 |
