Unhappy Firewall

Hi - Only joined Limewire the other day and having problems. Am not the best technically so its probs something really stupid I am doing. Any help would be appreciated though. I keep getting the little firewall thing in the lower left hand screen and no matter what I do I cannot get rid of it. Tried everything and there was a little while yesterday when I logged on and it was clear. However I had trouble downloading anything, kept getting Need More Sources so I switched the pc off. When I tried to log back in later the firewall thingy was back And since then I cannot get rid of it. Use Norton security and tried sorting it there but nothing! Tried disabling the windows firewall too and that did'nt do anything. Am baffled!

Could you both give your system details, please
System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

Siobhan,

Don't run Windows & Norton firewalls together...turn off the Win firewall & configure the Norton firewall to allow LW. The threads below have more info about this

Is your LW connected at all (green connection bars in the bottom left corner)??

Please give us a few more details (click on the blue link here & answer as many of the questions as you can)
System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

Clearwire isn't very p2p friendly, they're known for blocking & throttling (very slow downloads) p2p.

You guys that asked for help are really something else.

Birdy has asked twice, in this thread, for your system details and all you guys do is say you want help. How do you expect any form of help if you don't say what equipment you have?

Therefore, for goodness sake, click on the link, read what we want and post your equipment details.

Just remember that we want to help you but you have to give us the information for us to do so, we can't read minds, astral project or use crystal balls, so we need you to tell us what you have.

I cannot connect to the network for some reason, while another machine on the same network can. I am being told that there is a firewall up, yet I have none installed on my machine.

1. I am using Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 3
2. With no firewalls (at least I couldn't find one, and I never installed one)
3. 512MB RAM
4. I have about 9GB available on the drive for downloads.
5. Cable Connection
6. RCA Cable Modem - Model # DCM325
Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router with 4 Port Switch - Model # BEFSR41 ver4.2
7. Home connection
8. Limewire 4.9.33
Java 1.4.2_05
9. Comcast is my ISP
10. "Your test worked!!"
11. There are 2 computers connected to the router if that's what you mean. The first port is being used by an XP machine and it has 0 problems with connecting to Limewire even with a firewall in place.
12. First attempt with LW on this network... The thing is that I can host games on Warcraft III (port in 6000 range) without a problem... also, I used to be on a different network and was able to access LimeWire without a problem. This is a new issue in that regard.
13. Yes, I see a brick wall.
14. Right now I'm trying port forwarding, but as I stated earlier, WC3 is no problem, but Limewire will not connect.
15. I used Avast Anti-virus (demo) and Ewido (demo) in the past, but both have been uninstalled. The only other program that even comes close would be AdAware.
16. I live in the United States of America.

I hope you can help me cos this is bugging me. Thank you.

Default Firewall issues

Hey - it seems to have sorted itself out. Have a sneaking suspicion that it is related to me ISP (Clearwire) because the firewall appears randomly in LImewire and if I log out and try again its generally gone. Thanks for the help and advice though

Hi Oblivion9

You say that you have tried port forwarding but that has not worked, the thing is 99 times out of 100 port forwarding works and for your efforts not to work is unusual.

However, you have not said whether you have tried UPnP on your setup, so if you have not then I suggest you do.

Click on the following link and try to follow the instructions, which will help you to initiate UPnP on your equipment, afterwards let us know how you got on.
