Default Greetings (& some downloading questions)

Hello you buncha Gnuts. I'm new to this forum and thought I'd introduce myself.

There. I've been properly introduced. Now I need to find out why sometimes limewaire downloads like a raped ape and sometimes it sits for days and .....nothing.

Sometimes it downloads audio but video just quits. Awaiting sources, Need more sources, connecting, waiting but nothing.

I'm sharing a gazzilion files of audio and video. I allow freeloaders somewhat. I allow ample slots for uploads and enough bandwidth to allow several uploads at a time. I have no filters invoked. I usually let Limewire use 100% of my bandwidth.

Why the quirks??

If this is the improper forum for this I'll go look for the correct one but I'm sure somebody has some constructive advice other than, "you're using the wrong thread".

Hi horizonod,

Download speed depends on your connection speed, host(s) connection speed, how many hosts you're downloading from, network congestion etc.
Don't forget that you're downloading from other users, so if a file sits doing nothing for days it can be because there aren't any hosts online sharing the file, or the hosts online don't have any free upload slots. Click on the file within search results > search more > get more results...sometimes that can kickstart a stuck download. Or try a completely new search.

There are heaps of fake files around. These will sit connecting for ages & then get stuck needing sources forever. They'll never download. Always check a video file before download with Bitzi (try for audio as well, but music isn't rated as often as video). If the file's been rated, you'll get an idea of content & quality. If a file has heaps of sources but no Bitzi rating, chances are it's a fake. Check out the threads below for more info & tips, including how to use Bitzi

Hi Birdy. Thanks for the tips. I'm fairly new to this and don't even know what Bitzi is or how to use it but I'm a quick learner.

I know about fake files and avoid them by instinct but my searches bring up numerous files that look to be being open and in use. I never click on anything that has no # listed. Should I?

What's starnge is that sometimes files fly in hand over fist then sometimes their won't be any downloads for eons. My searches are similar and sometimes I'll just S can everything, shut down, reboot and re-start Limewire. That rarely works.

It's just strange. Sometimes the majority of files download. Then only audio. Then it's like I've reached some quota and everything grinds to a halt and virtually NOTHING downloads. It seems to be more a system problem. It seems like if I select 50 files to download a few would be good. Sometimes most are and sometimes virtually none will even connect even though my connection is good.

Could you please tell me more about Bitzi? I've looked at a few links but when I try to find Bitzi on my Limewire Pro, it's not there. Is it something I have to add on??

Thanks

Did you see this link, within the 'fake files' thread? there's a lot of info there, plus some screenshots. All you have to do is right click on a file in the search results > advanced > lookup file with Bitzi. Then the Bitzi page will come up. Bitzi's not within LW's options or anything...you just access it by right clicking on a search result. If you see 'unknown bitprint', that means nobody's rated the file yet.
How to use Bitzi Web Lookup

Within that link there's info about Bitcollider. If you register with Bitzi & download bitcollider, you'll be able to rate files yourself & add them to the Bitzi database

Nothing in the # column means that the file has only 1 source. In theory, you'll get faster downloads from multiple sources but that doesn't mean that a file with a single source isn't good. Depending how fast host connections are, you can sometimes download a file faster from a single source (with a fast connection) than from multiple sources (with slow connections or too many upload slots open).
