accessing internet browser  I had not used Limewire for several years (or anyother music download service) until a few days ago. However, shortly therafter my wife informed me that our brower would not allow access to the internet. (Cable connection) So, I contacted our provider & they immediately sent a tech. to our home. He checked out all of their cable connections etc. & there was no problems there; even after I logged on w/laptop via wireless router. By the way i'm sending this email via my wireless hook-up! :lmao: Next I loaded my desktop & took it to the computer store where I purchsed it...no problems there when he connected to the internet via my usual browser. So the problem must be cable... grrrr Early this morning i called suddenlink support (out of state) they did diagnostic tests looked at my computer from inside... long story short... call Microsoft 1 800 number... which i did & they ended up saying i should contact Limewire, because of some internat issue not allowing my Explorer Internet Browser to load properly. :wasntme: :mad2: Please, help me. I really don't know where else to turn... Limewire still gives me access to download music & as far as i can tell there are no virsuses from the download but there is an issue with accessing my internet browser.. :xirokrotima: thank you for your response. neil webb |
I guess i need to tell you my problem exactly. everytime i try to access the internet via our browser it comes up displaying the home page very slowly then after about 3 to 7 sec. it goes away... completely disappears. |
you haven't described what you used LW for....may not matter actually, as there are groups of 'good guys' who attack LW users when they see them connected to the network...I suspect you have either been infected with a virus/trojan or have been hacked and messed with...this is not a problem with LW, rather as I describe above... first, scan with every AV you can get your hands on, including Spybot search and destroy and adawareSE (free downloads)..if those come up negative then I for one would just backup important data and do a reformat and clean install of the OS...that usually ends up being quicker than 'fixing' the problem many times |
jnwebb I agree with Peerless that you should clean up your HD but before you do a reformat, which is the last resort, go back to a previous "restore point", when your IE browser worked. In my experience, I have found that there are some malware that can cripple your IE and AV app, I believe, by making changes to your registry. So by cleaning up your HD, as Peerless suggested, and moving back to a previous restore point should solve your problem. However. if that fails then be prepared to do full reformat and reinstallation of your apps and data. Good Luck UK Bob |
good point on the system restore....I tend to forget about that option as I don't use that feature of XP |
