Uploading a file

I have problems with this. I'm putting files in the Shared-folder, but the files will not be shared automaticly. Does somebody knows what I'm doing wrong.

I have never shared files before so I would really like some help!!!

I'm not sure what you mean by "the files will not be shared automatically". Do you mean that you don't see any uploads (other people downloading your files)?
During your LW session, go to LW's library & check the uploads column...figure on the right shows attempted uploads & figure on the left shows successful uploads.
You can also go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session' - if it's false then you're not recieving incoming connections from other computers (probably a firewall issue). Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe)?

If you give us your details, we might be able to help a bit more:)

Some more details

Okey. I'll try to give you some more details.
The problem is that when i put some files in the "Shared" folder and tries to search for the files. It doesn't show up. That's my problem.
I don't really know more to say.
I sees you've wroted that "figure on the right shows attempted uploads & figure on the left shows successful uploads". What do you mean bu that. I'm not an expert either. Should it be that hard to share files?

Anyway. Thanks!!!

LW was not designed to find your own files in an internet search. What's the point of downloading from yourself. If you wish to check if your files are being shared & found, get a friend to direct connect or give them a magnet link to download. Then they can see if there's any problems. If they start downloading the magnet link, they can then also browse you. How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect

All files that are not coloured red in your Library window are being shared. So if you see them there, you know they are being shared. Birdy was refering to the columns to the right of the shared files ... if you look to the columns to the right, Hits shows how many times people have found them in searches, uploads shows how many successful or attempted uploads have occured.

You can add folders to share or else put them into the shared folder, right click them & choose share. It is a good idea to give them a good description to help them being found. You can right-click each file & choose the Describe button.

OK

I didn't mean search on the internet. I have two computers. And when I searchs for the files in LimeWire PRO on the other computer, the files doesn't show up. That's why I'm wondering if it's being shared or not...

Try as I suggested, a magnet link to see if you can download it from the other. It is being shared outside your lan if (a) there is no brick wall icon at bottom of screen of LW, (b) it is sitting in the Library window & is coloured black. (c) has been seen by others if it has numbers beside that file's name under the Hits column. (click samples to see larger)

OK

But my friend tried to search for the file I uploaded, but he couldn't find it.

Did you give them a magnet link of one of your files & they try to browse you after they started downloading it?

Perhaps you need to describe your files better. For audio files you can use id3 tags. Else use the Describe function in the LW Library as also for most other types of file. Select the file & press Describe button. By doing this, you are tagging the file with extra information that will help that file be found because some key words will be utilised when people search them. After describing your files, you should press the Refresh button so it refreshes & rehashes your shared files.

eg: an mp3 song called 'Mary had a little lamb.mp3', with a description of Album, Artist, extra information that a person could search for to help them find it. If a person searched the author of that song, then they would have a better chance of finding it. Same applies to videos with main actors, directors, release date, etc.

Oh

I think this perhaps would be to hard for me. Cause I didn't understand a thing of what you said right now.

Lord of the Rings November 3rd, 2007 11:47 PM

Yes it would be difficult if you did not click on my previous links & read the guides on how to create magnet links or how to browse people's files.
