help me (legality)

Hello, well this is my first time here and i really need help. My question is simple, is limewire legal, if I was to use it to download songs into my ipod would I be risking copyright problems? I want to know this before getting limewire. If it would cause me problems then what is limewire for...just listening to shared music?
