If only half will transfer, then there's a chance they are not really music files.
There are non audio files being spammed posing as audio files but are in fact viruses. Scan the files with your anti virus to check. Then play them directly with any alternative audio players you have. iTunes cannot play mp3pro, ogg, or real format files.

Hello,
I've been using limewire 4.2 for over a year and haven't had any problems until now. I'm running on OSX and while I can still connect and download audio files, it does not allow me to play or copy to my itunes. The only thing I can think of is that I recently upgraded my itunes, but don't see why that should be an issue - esp since it won't play when it's just in my limewire library as well. Any thoughts??

A few reasons I can think of.
The audio files you have downloaded are not really audio files, get to know these file sizes: Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see)

Another reason is that if you are using an older version of LW, the LW listing in iTunes will not work.

If the files are not being auto-added to LW's library, perhaps you need to re-set it to do so. LW preference options -> iTunes -> Importing & make sure it's ticked. If yes, uncheck it, press apply, then tick it again.

Go to your LW Library window, select Saved Files folder & press the Explore button. Sample image here: Using Library Explore button to access downld folder (click on link) & the folder will open up for you. Then drag & drop the audio files onto the Library icon at the very top of iTunes playlists.

Remember iTunes will not add these formats: mp3pro, ogg vorbis (there is a 3rd party plug-in to allow this), wma, real.

mp3 is iTunes format. Do you mean the icon? Select an mp3 file, right-click & choose Open with, then tick the option to 'always open with'. That will then make iTunes the default player for mp3's. You should never convert an mp3 to mp3. That only reduces quality.

If iTunes cannot open the file, then it is probably as fake file.
