UltraPeers & Files

I've used an older version of LimeWire for a long time & then ordered the newest version. I never connect to more than three ultrapeers & there are never any files. Why is this new version so restrictive? On the older version I used to get results for the most obsure stuff. Not any more. I downloaded MP3 rocket but assuming it is just Limewire with a different need. I've read everything on Limewire about this problem but still don't understand why things are so different with this new version. Is there a place to load old versions (other than mac)? Finally, installing new skins. The directions didn't work for me but I think they just were't specific enough. Thanks for any help.

Very few people using LW Basic are able to connect to more than 3 UP's.

Running in ultrapeer mode will allow you to connect to more UP's, however I think from LW 4.16 onward stopped the ability for people to cheat to become UP's because there were far too many UP's that were not behaving like proper UP's & were bad for the network. Now ultrapeer mode is only awarded if the networks around your area needs more, and if your LW is behaving well enough to become one, & of course UP needs to be enabled.

If you are a Pro user, try disabling your Advanced options -> Performance, & also under Speed option, disable OOB. That sometimes lifts connection back up to how it should be. :)

For some people, deleting their previous LW preferences folder has also been a plus for the newer version of LW. ;)

Thank you for your quick response. I will probably end up purchasing LW Pro even though I have heard it really isn't much better than the standard free edition. How do you delete the preference folder? Thanks again.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Or for Vista see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html. For Mac OSX: Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX
