Default Can't view videos or hear audios

I downloaded and installed limewire basic today for the first time. I opened and downloaded a preview but couldn't view it. Didn't think too much until I downloaded a complete movie and the same thing happened. I double click it after it completes the download it opens vlc media player which the bar runs across for all of 15 seconds with no picture or audio. i figured I needed something installed like the vlc software since i never used it i installed the vlc media player same deal what am i do wrong???

what kind of video is it? Does it have a file extension? If you open it up in VLC, media information under Window menu or control-i should open up information about the file to describe the format. Such details might help us to give advice.

First one was a .mov second is a .mp4
also my computer is a vista if that makes a difference

**I think I figured it out I attempted to download another file extension to see if that was the difference- then read through some answers of other Questions though not the same as mine. It seems the general consensus is to start the download then preview and if it doesn't work then delete the download. So far the preview played

I'm not sure about now but in a previous few versions of LW, when previewing VLC (& WMP) would not always open & play the file. In any case, to prevent preview files being created & taking up space, you can preview the incomplete file itself directly from the incomplete folder: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...tml#post330410 (I need to update the sample image of the download window of LW 5.)
