Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Limewire on MacBook Air PLS HELP! Hiya! I've searched both this forum and the internet but cannot find the answer to my problems with getting LimeWire to work on my Mac. Here are the details: MacBook Air OS X Version 10.5.8 Intel Core 2 Duo (which I think means 64 bit) When I right click on Limewire, I see I downloaded 4.16.7. LW does open up but never connects. Also, the bottom right says there is a firewall, but I've gone into my Security Settings and changed LW to allow incoming connections. I've tried other suggestions from threads, like unclicking the "Suggest Tips" and connect/disconnecting Limewire and starting it manually instead of having run at Startup. I've also gone into the Receipts folder and moved the downloads.dat file and then deleted the LW Preferences folder. Nothing has worked! I'm fairly new to Mac so I could be doing something wrong. Can anybody help? Please? |

For LW 4, you will highly likely need a fresh Gnutella.net file which is a kind of connection cache that helps you to connect. You will find a reference to it & explanation how to replace the old one near bottom of page here If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link). (However, I've also supplied two fresh ones within zip files in the attachment below.) LW must be CLOSED whilst you replace the old gnutella.net file ! |

Didn't work. LW was closed and I followed the instructions exactly. Since nothing seems to be working, I decided maybe Frostwire would work for me. I installed that and, same thing...It will not connect. On my Mac Security settings I have to accept incoming connections for both apps and do not have any sort of Anti-Virus on my computer either. |

Here's what I know...Sorry in advance for not knowing some of the information, I'm very new to Mac and don't know where to find some of the info. Thanks for helping me! 1. OS version? Mac OS 10.5.8 2. What firewalls you have? I have whatever is standard for a mac - I haven't downloaded any firewall/virus protection. 3. How much ram? Don't know where to get this information. ? 4. Hard Disk space available? Don't know where to get this information ? 5. Connection type? We have comcast cable (Florida), so I think broadband. 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Not sure of the name but it is a model/router wireless all in one and have never had a problem with it 7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? I downloaded Limewire 4.16.7. Don't know where to get Java info from? 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? NOTHING AT ALL, It doesn't load the site at all. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? A couple of years ago I downloaded LW on a windows computer and had no problem at all. Like I said in the first post, I'm new to Mac so I could be doing something wrong. 13. (a) Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface (only for LW 4 users)? YES (b) How many red or green bars do you see at bottom left of LW's screen? Four red bars and I think the smallest bar is green, but it's so small it's hard to tell! 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I don't know what this means (?) 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. None, just the firewall setting in Mac Security area, and I've set it to accept LW. 16. What country are you living in? USA 17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? No. Same house, same ISP, just new to Mac. |

Under Apple icon top left of screen is a menu. At top of menu is About this mac. That will tell you all the hardware specifics. But that will not affect issue at moment. no.10, showing nothing at all is a concern. Means the default port for connecting with LW is blocked. It should say, Your Test Worked! (click to see sample image) If you can, try to find out more about your modem/router. The Brand name .. also the model number. This 'might' be the problem with using LW. I'm not sure your ISP would be blocking the default connection port but might be. Otherwise it's something else in your set up that is blocking, possibly your modem/router. Another tool to try is http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and you can type in any port your LW is using. For example, this can be helpful to test to make sure port forwarding has worked and the port is open. |
