I used LW 'back in the day' and have just returned to it, I don't receive any hits on the searches I'm doing ... does anyone use P2P anymore? I'm running into the same issues on Pirate Bay, zero hits on searches! Am I doing something wrong or does everyone want movies and not share music anymore? |
Which version of LW are you using? I'm assuming LW 5. If not then please post back with the relevant info. Is your LW properly connected to the network (all green/blue connection bars in the bottom left corner)? Providing LW is properly connected... 1.Try changing ultrapeers (hosts that you connect to in order to search). In LW tools > advanced tools. In the Host column, you'll see UPs that you're connected to. Check in the Time column & see which ultrapeer has been connected for the longest time. Right click on that host > Remove. That ultrapeer will be replaced by another. Now start a new search for your file. If you don't see any improvement in results, remove the next ultrapeer. And so on... 2. Try the fixes mentioned in this post: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post343508 3.You can also check out this thread for info: How to find music/videos If your LW isn't connected properly then there are fixes to try in the link below. If LW 5 Will Not Connect :) |
I'm using Pirate 5.6.2; yes, fully connected (have been able to download one song now!!); I'll try the fixes you've linked to/suggested. Thanks for replying, Birdy, :Smilywais: I'm glad I'm not totally losing my marbles yet!! |
There has been odd occasions I had search difficulties, limited results. If the above process did not work, I restarted LPE. I do recall one or two occasions rebooting the router (leaving it off for a minute) and the computer to get a fresh ip and refresh ram. These all worked. Also, if you see any version of LW 5.0 or 5.1 in your connection list, get them off. 5.1.2 in particular. |
Strange Peers 3 Attachment(s) This happened early December 2010. But kept forgetting about it. I had forgotten about the ban list after I started using LPE full-time and had deleted my preferences folder. I was inundated with guess who? lol :D Media Defender was one of the culprits, and probably responsible for the others. I was running in ultrapeer mode at the time. Left LPE to fend on its own as I was busy with other things. Top of the connection window: Attachment 6687 Lower down on connection window: (I mistakenly dated this one, it was 2010) Attachment 6689 Media Defender: (top shows the LW 5.1.2 host listings direct from Media Defender.) Attachment 6691 LW 5.1.2 ultrapeers and 4.18.8 leafs. At least two of the 5.1.2 versions directly linked to Media Defender. They also use servers in Germany and elsewhere. You may notice some were giving very high dropped messages, up to 76%. * Note: due to privacy reasons, ip addresses are not normally allowed to be posted on this forum. However, this is an exception so people are aware of and can block these spammer addresses. The USA tries to set the example to the rest of the world like, look at us, we are the perfect society. Yet, companies such as Media Defender, sponsored by the RIAA and MPIA, etc. are allowed to break not only international law but also USA law on spreading of malicious virus across the internet. The USA Government and policing organisations turn a blind eye because ... of special 'donations' to them by the RIAA and MPIA, etc. Makes it look like the Mafia is in total control of the USA. Even worse, since spreading of malicious virus is equivalent to terrorism. Many people's businesses have been affected both in the USA and worldwide, resulting in loss of business and jobs. It is a plot to help the USA with international trade. :D |
I just download limewire pirate edition, got it connect but when i find a song and download it, iinstead of being my song it's an audio message telling me to go to gatemp3.com or it comes up as marked as spam, is there something i am doing wrong, do i have to set something right? |
Some extensions such as .wma, .mov, .au, .zip, .exe, .rar often contain spam or are infected. Check out this thread for help (info for video as well): How to find music There's a section there about using the keyword filter, with lots of info about which words & file extensions to filter for best results (ie weed out the fakes, spam & porn);) You can find the file extension filter within tools > options > search > filter file extensions. And keyword filter within tools > options > search > keyword filter. After adding words/extensions to the filter(s), click ok on the filter page & then ok again on the main options page. And if you still keep seeing crap, try changing ultrapeers (hosts that you connect to in order to search). See whether that helps at all :) |
LPE doesn't connect for me |
Have you tried a Connection fix? Or checking other solutions? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html If you have not used LW for 30 or more days, you will have major problems connecting. Unfortunately this is how LW 5 was designed, to delete the connection file upon opening if the connection file is a month or more old. Back then, LW had bootstrap servers which helped with connections, but they were turned off around October 2010. Those who have the OSX connection fix installer from February onward can keep hold of it for many months I suspect in case of connection problems. The installer changes the connection file date upon installing. I was unable to do this with the Windows connection installer. One option is to use File_Girl71's Windows Fix found as an attachment at bottom of this post here. |
For any Mac users out there, I have added a LPE OSX Portable version. You can run this version from any drive including flash or external drives. Then if desired, carry the folder around with you to another mac computer with OSX 10.5 or later (work, home, friend's computer, school, hotel, jail, etc. lol). Do not panic about the different icons, this is just to show it is the portable and not the standard version. If you already have LW installed on your system, running the portable will not affect it in any way because the portable's settings and shared files are kept within the portable folder. However, you cannot run two LW's at same time. I've also finished a LW 5.4.6 OSX portable if interested. A portable OSX 4.18.8 (compatible with OSX 10.4 or later) is on its way as soon as I refine the settings for LW 4. (Sorry, it seems no version earlier than 4.18 will run as a portable with portable settings.) Does anybody want a portable Windows LPE? I already created one whilst doing the mac version. I will not post it unless there is any demand for it. Anybody for a Linux version? |
