Most of the latest operating systems - Windows 8, MacOSX 10.8 are not packaged with Java. Looks like this might also be the case with the newer Linux releases?
Simply means you need to install Java yourself independently from the Java site.

Or am I misunderstanding your post?
It might be the same issue Windows users have had with any LW 5 version including LPE. ie: LW will not run directly with Java 7, you need to create a shortcut to the LimeWire.jar file http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post368753. I am not sure what are the equivalents for Linux.

Thank you for your reply LOTR. I've tried all the various Java installs for Ubuntu but I think the problem is in the LimewirePE code specifically wanting a now defunct version of Java.

So it will not even install or refuses to open?

If it is able to install, look for a file called LimeWire.jar probably located in the LW program folder if one exists for linux. For Windows the LimeWire.jar file is inside a folder called lib, for MacOSX it is found inside a folder called Java within the resources directory. On Windows and MacOSX LW can be opened via opening the LimeWire.jar file.

Also, have you checked http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tu-debian.html

I know none of the LW 4 versions have been affected by the java issues, I am not sure about Linux. There are LW clones you could try instead, almost all are based off LW 4's design, as is FrostWire.

You are now the second person to report a problem with Java on Linux. Are you sure the Java version is 1.8? I cannot find any such version. I've searched the Oracle site and cannot find mention of Java 1.8 or Java 8.

In terminal type % java -version
Do you get an error?

It is my guess the problem is 64-bit Java, similar to Windows. The answer for Windows is to install the 32-bit Java last. How do I download and install 32-bit Java for Linux? The 32-bit version will have linux-i586 as a part of its name.
http://www.java.com/en/download/help...he_upgrade.xml (that article refers to Windows, but probably same principle.)

I am not a Linux user so cannot test things. If still problems, find the Limewire program package and find LimeWire.jar and execute this instead. It will probably be found within a LimeWire sub-folder called either java or lib.

It would be a huge kudos if any Linux users out there could give a help in hand here.
