Got fresh gnutella.net file and replaced via instructions. No connection. Any other thoughts? Or will I have to wait for file girls fix?

I would suggest you try different Gnutella.net files to see which one works.
The one I uploaded a few days ago (originated from OSX & now hosted at iFileit) I just tried out for Windows 2000, with LW 4.16.7 & it connected very quickly. Other things to try listed here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

One problem I find with LPE & all the LW 5 versions is the Library concept. LW 5 loads the library in almost a similar fashion it loads Shared files. Thus there is a massive extra load on the program. Depending on how much extra load, after a period of operation a common error message to receive is, 'LimeWire encountered a problem ..." pop-up message. LW then must be closed & re-opened to refresh. Also if you do have a large library, frequently LW will start to lag & become slow after a period of time. On a mac with a large library, after 10+ minutes I find opening the preferences window & attempting to switch preference tabs will result in the program freezing.

Something else that adds to the load on LW is having a large ban list. This has a similar effect as having a large Library list of files. Yet the ban list is stored in limewire.props file, the shares & library in library5.dat file.

I am constantly backing up my limewire.props file, because every once in a while, LW will wipe it clean after a crash. With large library, large shares or/& large ban list, LW also becomes slow to write to the limewire.props or library5.dat file. Thus some things may not get written to the limewire.props file for up to or over 15 minutes. Also after opening LW, it may take LW a while to read the entirety of limewire.props file. I discovered this with the ban list.

* I think ideally, some of the options in the limewire.props file such as banned list should be separated into their own file. Thus less lines for the program to search through, read & write to. The library5.dat file should be split into two (or more) files, one for shares, one for library. I don't think programs read large text settings files very efficiently once they reach a certain size. For java based programs, it means Java memory errors! Alternative answers? VM or seeking extra system RAM when needed for Java? Java really shows it's limitations when lots is loaded into it. And my console shows the errors are Java memory based when the program starts to lag & eventually crash.

I have 16 GB RAM & 4 x 1 TB Hard Disk drives. Lots of alternative memory locations that could be used. LW only uses a very small portion of my RAM, about 300 MB of RAM. Having option to enable extra RAM or VM could be highly beneficial. I guess in similar way Photoshop allows you to set portion of system RAM it utilizes.
(BTW I greatly dislike LW 5's library concept being treated similarly to shares. For a large library, it means problems.)

Do's the library in the LWE keep your music in a total file for itself or do's the download go to the file you want it saved in? When I had the MMJB I found that the libray for it was just like a list of libray files tellimg where the music actually was in the pc files. I thought that was how the LWE did it. I was able to add to the library and it would come back asking if I wanted to replace any duplicates or add all music also. I didn't actually have 2 complete files of the music which would take up a lot of space. Have a good one. Rich

I have been using LPE and came across the problem of while dl several avi they stalled when I tried to fix stall nothing worked. when I refresh the host everything cleared and when I try to search again no results are found. how can this be fixed so I can find those files

Chances are they are offline. Unfortunately, people's shares remain in the general hash search domain for some time even if they have logged off or crashed from using their particular gnutella program client. But then, there are also some who either (a) have upload slots set to zero, or (b) remove their shares as they download them (but their shares are still added to the shared files search domain for a period of time.)

Of course other reasons such as the uploader's upload slots are all busy & you are unable to get a download slot after a period of time. Sometimes due to them only having one or two upload slots open which means attempted downloads from them die easily & quickly slip into 'Need More Resources, or 'Stalled'.

Much advice on this topic .. even though some of it now a little old, has been given in this forum section: Download/Upload Problems

Basic issue is, people come & go from the network continuously. So the shares change. Searching, then 4-5 mins later using the 'Get/Find More Results' tool frequently helps here. Also, (1) the longer you are connected to the network, the better your search results should be, & (2) the more files you share, especially if they are related to the kinds of files you are seeking, then the better your search results should be. Have a good decent upload bandwidth setting, sharing lots of files, have at least several upload slots open, then search results will improve notably. Hopefully you will notice this with testing.

For those who do not wish to give much in the way of sharing either number of files, or upload slots or upload bandwidth, their search results tend to be somewhat limited & closed just as their minds are.

(Edit: forgot to mention: When you choose a file to download, it needs to first download the Hash of the file. Without this, the file will not download. So if LPE is unable to at least download the hash of the file first, it will highly unlikely ever start to download during that or later sessions even if you come across same/identical files in search results in later sessions. LPE only shows hash being downloaded by others in the upload window, not for your downloads in the download window unfortunately. So you never know if your attempted downloads have downloaded the hash or not (unless the file has started to download at some point.))

Jesus christ you guys use 22GB of my bandwidth a month downloading from me LOL! But it's all good. I'd rather be a helpful resource. I'm surprised the links are still being used.

i've been using an old version of limewire foreever. 4.18.8 and recently it stopped connecting. so i downloaded the pirate edition and that just stalls at connecting as well. forgive me for not reading thru 14 pages of posts but its worked fine for months after the injuctions.... whats going on now? any way to get it working again?
