Thumbs up 2 Questions : Speed and which is best

Hi, I am a Gnotella user, and I maintain six lines open when connevting to the hosts when i initiate the program. I was wondering whether this speeds up my downloads or if it slows them down. Will keeping up more connections lead to faster download speed and to more replies to my search?

Question 2

I was wondering which was the best Gnutella clone that i could download and if I could be using a much better program. I heard that Gnucleus is good, and i was going to get that, but then i saw that limewire was good. So i dont know which one to get now. Which is NUMERO 1?

Hallo:

First, the more connections you have, the slower will your downloads be. This is because messages are routed through each of your connections consuming, say, 0,5KB/sec each. So all depends on your internet connection, for modem users I would recommend 3 connections. I use DSL and I am having 6 connections, this is enough, I think. More replies? Only slightly, if at all, I guess, but who knows.....

Second, I would strongly recommend Gnucleus. It is small and stable, though under development. I believe it to be the fasttest client also. In my experience Limewire is big, slow due to Java, and I dislike it's appearance. This is very subjective, though.
Bearshare is also a good and fast and stable client, but due to some issues (read this and other fora) I can not recommend it any longer.

Greetings.....

Keeping open connections will slow your download speed, but only slightly. You can disconnect other servents, or reduce the number of connections to speed things up, but this will not be a drastic improvement and it will prevent others from searching your shared files and making connections to you.

I would suggest trying them all, with one exception, and making up your own mind. My favorite is Gnucleus. It works best of all that I have tried. The only one that I would say you should definately stay away from is Bearshare, since it may install ad-ware and spyware on your machine without your knowlege if you are not careful during installation. There are other privacy and security concerns with Bearshare also, so you'd be better off just staying away from it.
